Sorry, but the technologies are not forward-compatible like that. The CD can write about 700MB of data to a 4-3/4" CD, but cannot write to a DVD. It may be the same physical size, but DVDs hold approximately 4.7 GigaBytes, or roughly 6 times MORE data and use a completely different writing technique. The only choice is to go and purchase a new DVD writer and replace the CD writer completely. With the reduction in costs lately, look for a DVD-RW (ReWritable) so you can use disks over and over again instead of one time each. It requires that you buy slightly more expensive disk, but they can be re-written 100s of times.
usually when a cd rom... or dvd rom drive is older than 5 years old... it's a good ideal to replace it... sometimes a voltage spike or a voltage surge... can render a cd drive useless... and when you have is the end result... upgrading the bios can aslo make the drive useless.
A firmware upgrade programs the information to your drive, upgrading its function. If it is not done correctly, it can cause your drive to become unusable, so its important to follow the instructions carefully.
Many drivers can be downloaded and burned to a CD or transferred to a external memory source. They are usually compacted files that need to be extracted which can be done on your PC that doesn't have internet after downloading them on a different computer and transferring them to an alternate memory source. Simply download the drivers and transfer them to a jump drive or burn them to a CD and then run them from the other PC.
The memory is located under the keyboard Remove batt and cables open screen pop out the rectangular panel surrounding the on off buttons remove the 3 screws and lift up the keyboard to access the memory Dont ask me why they made it this complicated Manual can be got here http://126.96.36.199/support/download/files_downloads/SA40/SA40EXUM.PDF
I just upgrade my laptop also. The fix seems to be this Driver Wdm4148 you can finf it here http://rapidshare.com/files/4436678/Wdm4148.zip.html You have to open Device Manager select your sound device it should have a ? since it's not working. Select update driver don't go through the windows update and select Install from a specific location. Now browse and find where you downloaded the file. I recommend the desktop Open it until you see the internal Wdm4148 and install. You'll have to do it twice for some reason but it works :)
This happens so much with upgrades! We think we are making our pc's better, and then find it doesn't like it. I am assuming you completely uninstalled millenium, then tried to load xp? If you did not, the registry still has parts of millenium on it, and is asking for this. You need to completely uninstall millenium first. You need to obtain mill copy, and select uninstall, then when done, put in your new xp disk and try again. Lilacgerry xxx
