If you didn't install a DVD player application, then yes you missed something. u need a blank dvd, or tell the program your using regular cd, it will be like four dvd's or like 11 regular disks. in some cases it wont work with either, i have seen it where the program just doesnt know any disk is inserted or blank. if thats the case, update the program or contact toshiba

check your device manager for dvd drive .chekc it is found or not.
open your dvd lock in right side of laptop.then reattach it.
also go to bois setup and give first boot option to dvd.then if u have bootable disk then try to boot with dvd.
then if u boot the sys then your dvd working properly.
then your os driver problem try to uninstall driver and rstart sys.
