I bought a 640 GB external hard drive. Do I just plug it into my old computer to get all the info off of it? Then can I transfer the information off the external hard drive to my new computer? If so, How do I do it? Thanks

Are you plugging directly into the computer or using a USB Hub. Cheaper USB hubs have awful data throughput. I have one that I tried to plug a sd card reader into and it would take ten minutes for a 60 megabyte file. Connect directly to a port. Or download Samsung diagnostics and make sure that the drive is in proper working order. Verifying The Hard Disk Drive Is Working Normally
Momentus is a SATA drive, so you can put it in any PC that has SATA bus to access the drive.
If you can borrow a SATA to USB dock, you can put it in the dock and plug the dock to USB port on a computer to get your data out the drive.
One example for the USB dock is EZ-dock and you can search on Internet for the picture.
If the external hard drive has been formatted on a PC in NTFS file format then the MAC cannot read data off this hard drive. The FIX.. Connect the USB external hard drive to a Windows computer and copy your data off this hard drive to the computer. Then format the external hard drive in FAT32 file format. (the MAC can read and write to data to and from a Windows PC) Now copy the your data from the computer back onto the external hard drive. Now you can connect the external hard drive to the MAC and download your data to the MAC.
First, you need to choose all the files you want to back up and put that into a folder then plug in your external harddrive click "my computer and double click your external hard drive and it will open another window. just drag all the folders that you want to backup and paste that to the new open windows which is your hard drive then thats it. just remove the external harddrive correctly and wait for the file to be complete transferred.
If you are having issues accessing the drive i've encountered that situation before
I tried a different cord and it started working again. Additionally i've had this work for me (see below)
Unplug all USB devices
Turn off Ext Hard drive
Shut down computer
Power on ext hard drive (then wait like 1 min)
Turn on computer
Wait for windows to finish loading
Plug in the USB cord from the ext hard drive to your computer (may take up to a minute for computer to recognize it)
If it doesn't recognize it then keep trying it in different USB ports
If it still won't recognize get all the latest windows update and reboot. If that doesn't solve your issue try your external hard drive on some other computers, check to see if drive needs special drivers installed (which most don't). From SimpleTech's website: "1) I have the drive plugged in but I cannot find the drive in "My Computer", why? The most likely cause would be not enough power provided by a single USB port on your computer. Unplug the portable drive from the cable and unplug the cable from the computer. Now, plug the cable into 2 USB ports directly on your computer. (If you have a desktop, you should plug the USB cable directly into the USB ports on the back of the computer. If this is a laptop, you should plug directly into a USB ports on the computer. Do not plug into a USB hub or docking station). Then plug the drive into the cable. In a few seconds you should see the drive listed in the "My Computer" window as a SimpleDrivePS."
If all that fails you need to RMA (Return to Manufacturer) your external hard drive. Most hard drives have a pretty decent warranty on them. Your simpletech 250GB has a 3 year warranty on it. Info on the warranty can be found at http://www.simpletech.com/support/warranty/. If you want to RMA it, click the "Technical Support / RMA Request" on the left hand side of that page.
