I have a similar problem with AutoCAD 2005. It appeared to load from the original (Genuine) CD onto my new PC running Vista Home Premium (Genuine) but then will not run.

I have followed the advice noted in various threads to run AutoCAD in XP Compatibilty Mode and as Administrator. HOWEVER, when I right-click the executable file (acad.exe) I do not get the Compatabilty Tab.

    Can anyone help please?

Check out the posts at: http://discussion.autodesk.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=5492130

they are old (circa 2007), but seem to list a reasonable solution for those of us that can't afford newer versions of ACAD. Please note, I haven't tried this! I'm purchasing a new machine currently and am looking for options and potential problems in transferring programs.

Please provide feedback!

Issue:

While in the process of starting AutoCAD , a Fatal Error occurs.

Causes:

Fatal errors usually indicate program corruption or a corruption somewhere within the operating system.

Solution:

There are several ways to address the problem: Note: A fatal error can be caused by DisplayLink Core software. If you have this installed on your system, try uninstalling it and then see if this resolves the issue. Additionally, some antivirus or desktop locking programs can cause errors in AutoCAD as they lock the system environment from working. Your antivirus may even need to be uninstalled.

If all of the above solutions fail to resolve the issue, and a full uninstall and reinstall of AutoCAD does not help (see Remove All Products from a Windows System), then you may need to reformat your hard drive and reinstall the operating system.

Load dvd disc, dvd reads disc then comes up with

I am just wondering whether the unit has got condensation inside.

Just try to do this as a process of elimination.

Take the dvd and place in a warm room.Plug it into the mains (try and eject disc if not leave in) and leave for 2-3 hrs
Give it another try..fingers crossed.

AutoCad R14 to Vista - bab-Mem-Pointer error message

You are still using AutoCAD R14? If you are that might be the problem. If you are running Vista, then AutoCAD R14 might be too old of a version to run. You will probably need to upgrade to a newer version of AutoCAD. I know this isn't a solution, but I am just trying to look at it from a different point of view. You can also go to autodesk.com and join their discussion groups. It is free and you can post questions. You usually get a fast response with an answer that really helps. I will do a little more research and add more when I get a chance. Good luck and I hope that I helped.

Conflict with Autocad 2004 (using Windows Vista)

Autocad 2004 is designed to be used with Microsoft Windows XP (Professional, Home Edition, or Tablet PC Edition), Windows 2000 Professional, or Windows NT 4.0 (SP6a or later) therefore I'd suggest to run your Autocad 2004 using Compatinity Mode --> Right click on the program icon--> properties-->Compatibility--> select one of the versions above
