Do a factory reset to this set. The Secondary Audio Program [SAP] to all channels will be cleared. Refer its user manual for details.

SOURCE: SAP

Hi Suezie,

The problem is most likely your SAP being turned On.

SAP was created for audio programing including translations into a 2nd language. On nearly all sets, the SAP being ON will essentially select an alternate audio stream and will de-select or mute the main audio from the channel your are viewing. However not all TV stations have SAP enabled.

I am the Chief Engineer of a TV station in Denver, CO. We are not using SAP so if you selected SAP while watching my station you would get noise or static. There would not be any audio there.

Go to the front panel of your TV and select the "MENU" function. Step through the menus to Audio features and De-select SAP or Enable your main audio and this should take care of the problem. Alternatively you might be able to unplug your set for a period of time and it would reset itself. I used to get calls from elderly viewers when the set wouldn't pick up the UHF TV stations anymore. These were always after a power failure and the set had defualted to factory settings,

Different set manufacturers use different menu schemes and withou a password feature, these menus are so simple a small child playing with those fascinating buttons can change them for you to something you really don't want.

Good luck and write back if you can't find it. The set manufacturer and model number would help me look up a menu tree for your TV set.

Thak you,
Bernarr Howell

No sound on certain channels

Your TV is equipped with SAP mode, this mode allows you to hear sound in a different language if available, if that second language is not available on that channel you will get no sound on that channel, this is a very common mistake which occurs when some one presses( usually by accident) a button on the remote control, the button is displayed as SAP on remote control or as secondary audio in audio mode in menu, simple to resolve is to switch this setting to STEREO on audio setting.

I have no volume on certain channels

The most common problem with no volume only on certain channels is the TV is programmed for 2nd Audio, also referred to as SAP which is a feature activated to transmit a second language such as Spanish. If you push your menu button on your remote control you can toggle over to Audio Menu. Then find the feature that allows you to adjust the sound for Mono, Stereo or 2nd Audio (SAP). Adjust the menu to highlight Stereo and that should cure your problem.
Hope this helps with your particular problem.

How do I get my rca truflat tv to get out of mono?

Hello
Press the MTS on the remote control handset to select STEREO, MONO or SAP. All the options will be available only when the current TV channel is broadcasting that option. Channels will not always carry programes, that have all MTS options. If "STEREO" appears on the screen when you select a channel means stereo sound is available with current programme. You can hear sound from both speakers. If broadcast is not strong and clear, stereo sound will not be available. Press "MTS" button to change it to "Mono". This will eliminate the noise. If "MONO" appears on the screen when you select a channel, stereo effect will not be availabe, even though you have set it to stereo. If "SAP" appears when you select a channel 'Second Audio Programe' [SAP] broadcasting is available for that programme. Press the "MTS" button to 'SAP' and you can hear that programe in different language or some other kind of audio.

No sound on some channels, other channels fine

Your SAP/MTS function is most likely turned on. This feature has 3 modes: Stereo, Mono and SAP. Stereo and Mono are easy to understand, it's the SAP that can get you. SAP stands for Second Audio Production. It is used to provide weather, information or an additional language translation of a program. Some broadcasters simply transmit the mono audio over the SAP audio channel when the are not using it for other purposes. Other broadcasters simply do not use it, which does not give you any audio. Look on your remote for a SAP or MTS button. If you do not see one, look in your TV user menu for this feature. If you are using a cable box, look in the audio menu of the cable box. You are looking for something set to SAP... just change it to STEREO. I hope this was helpful.

We don't get sound on some of our channels. we have time warner cable, but no box. We see the picture, but no sound - but only on certain channels.

You have accidentally turned on your secondary audio (SAP). Look on your original TV remote for a button that says MTS or Audio and when you press this button it will say something like SAP, MONO or STEREO. You want to set it to STEREO for best sound and to get back the audio on the channels that you are missing.

If you are having trouble finding the way to shut off the secondary audio please repost with you TV Brand and Model # and we will try to help you.

Good Luck and please rate this solution....

No sound on channels that have SAP instead of Stereo

You can access the menus using the buttons on the set. Go to audio menu, you'll find a setting that says listen to and have choices of mono stereo or sap, choose stereo.

We have a 32" Toshiba Tv and the sound is off on two channels and Stereo Sap is displayed on these two channels. Any suggestions as to how I could clear this?

turn off the sap in the audio menu. sap is "secondary audio programming" i believe, and sometimes stations will broadcast in spanish on this sap or will broadcast weather or emergency information. these channels are probably broadcasting a mute sound over the air.
