If you have a receipt for it and you had it less than 2 years it can go to Galaxy in Calif. if is defective. Just go the the Galaxy tech support webpage and follow the directions for an RA #. They do good work. If you want to send it to a top notch repair shop try Dons CB in PA. They are a real Galaxy warranty service center. The # is 814-898-1046

I know someone who can fix your problem they are a galaxy dealer in texas and do alot of galaxy radio repairs. With a problem like yours it is not a doit yourself thing you need signal generators and spectrum anylizers to retune the reciever and transmitter.

I have a Galaxy DX 929 that seems to have really weak receive compared to my Cobra 29 LTD on the same antenna setup on the same vehicle. Squelch and RF gain fully open. The receive S - meter does move on...

Some possible issues may be a miss aligned receive section or a possible bad component in the receive section.

From my experience, Galaxy radio's have a much quieter receive, as were the cobra 29 seems to be a bit more loud, with more background noise.

The cobra 29 still has one of the best receives out there. There may be louder static, but it picks up amazingly.

If this radio had a clarifier it would be easy to tell if the receive was off. You could just tune it as you are receiving, and if it got better as you tuned it off center you would know. Otherwise you would have to open the radio, and adjust the receive by ear, which is something where you may do more harm then good.

The proper way to align the radio requires the use of a watt meter and volt meter, which are easy to come by, but as well you will need an oscilloscope, which is a more expensive piece of equipment to own.

If the unit is new, then it's under warranty. Contact galaxy, see what they say. Their tech support is pretty good.

But ALL in ALL,

If the unit seems to be receiving on freq, (no muffled or distorted receive) and it is working well besides having a less sensitive receive, then I would say it's just that radio.

I have a galaxy base radio, and it has a real clean quiet receive, but my cobra 29's seem to have a more sensitive receive, but I like that galaxy because there is less noise.

I have a stock 88 and i was woundering if i could run a power mic on it and i was woundering how much for a tune up and a mod kit added to her

Yes you can add a Power Mic but do not expect a lot of positive gain from it as the Galaxy already has a Power Mic Circuit inside the radio and you will only be duplicating it at best, more that likely overdriving it. A good quality microphone like a Shure Controlled Magnetic would be a better choice. A tune upi will help emincely as these radios are mass produced and are not peaked to preformance like asuper tune will do both improving both the transmit and the recieve. Yes the Mod Kits help a lot if they are both the right ones and they are professionally installed and aligned. You can call 706 270 39829 they can help you as they are Galaxy / Ranger Experts.

These radios have a complicated synthesizer circut in them to create the operating frequency and are not easily aligned without the aid of very expencive equipment, Which must be kept calibrated! Call 7086 270 3829 they are Galaxy Experts and have that equipment which is kept in certified calibration, Service monitors, Spectrum analizers and all.

If the antenna for the other properly operating radio is used with the radio with the noise and you are getting the static then we can assume it is the radio. If you hear signals with the static, that is, it does receive communications at the same time, there may be a problem with the noise reduction circuitry, or a defective component(s) in the receiver. Without knowing your experience I would suggest taking to a radio shop.

Galaxy 88hl stuck on 24.178

Hello radiogeek,

it sounds like you have a bad voltage regulator since you are indicating that the voltage adjusted by L17 is random. Check all of your voltages from the power supply (regulator side), and make sure they are stable. You will find that you may have a bad voltage regulation circuit or a bad capacitor in the unit power supply.

Thank you,
