Are the right shift and backslash keys also non-functional? If they are, you have a bad connection in one of the lines between the key panel and its internal controller chip.

Sometimes you can get it to work by holding the keyboard by the ends and twisting it a little bit. You can try undoing and reseating the connector cable between the key panel and the controller board (if this is a flat membrane cable, you need to know how to unlock it before doing this). If that doesn't help, undo the cable and polish the contact surfaces with a white pencil eraser. CAUTION: the controller is sensitive to static electricity. Avoid touching the circuitry, except for shielding metal.
