You either have a bad stick of RAM or a bad motherboard.

You can try swapping the RAM , it is in an access port on the bottom of the computer.

If that doesnt do it , you need a new motherboard. Best bet in that case is to upgrade.

While switching to "standby" mode,

I would browse www.toshiba.com and download updated drivers and firmware. It is a very well laid out site and easy to use.
Hope that helps.

Toshiba tecra a5 internal speakers broken, i just turned the laptop on one day and no sound came out. truth be it i probably knocked them or something, being a careless fifteen year old. i have no ipod...

Yes.. Sound would definitely work with the headphones..

And also, you may be able to fix the internal speakers. they probably arent dead. You probably just need to reload the sound card driver.

To find your audio / sound driver. Go to this link

http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp?nav=Download

Enter your Toshiba model number. and when the list of drivers come up.

Find and download the sound card driver.. Then install it. And then restart the computer.. Your sound should work again.

No display on screen but lights on keyboard. The battery and power lights come on and the hard disk light blinks, but there is no display on the screen

Try an external monitor on the laptops vga output, if the external monitor works ok then you have either a faulty screen or inverter

Need to reinstall my machine but don't have product key for laptop toshiba tecra A5

The product key should be on the bottom of your laptop.

For most Toshiba laptops tapping on the "zero" (0) at the toshiba splash screen on start up will start the "factory restore" process.

This process will not work if you have replaced or reformatted your hard drive.

Toshiba Laptop Keyboard problem

My Toshiba Satellite A45 S120 keyboard has a problem, some of the keys are not working. When you type it does noting. Sometimes when you start the computer, it continuously types the letter eeeeeeee. You can hit some keys randomly and this will stop, but if you start a program (eg. ms word) the same thing happens.
