Question about Samsung DLP HL-P5663W 56" TV

6 Answers

I have a Samsung DLP 50" r5067w that is acting weird. When I attemp to play a DVD/CD the screen has flickering bars running across it. I can bearly see the actual DVD in the background and the sound is great. I have unplugged it for approx. 5 mins and that worked for a while. Now, there seems no cure for this issue. If I'm watching cable the picture is fine, although I now experience an occasionally resetting of the set as is pwr off and then back on at random times. v/r, QSligh

For further clariforcation, I'd like to add the following:
The problem is with both my WII as well as my DVD/VCR player which both have been working for over 2 years. This issue started 2 months ago. I have uplugged both and reconnected with no luck. Simply unplugging the power from the TV and waiting for approx. 5-10 mins use to work, but now that is a hopeless fix. I have changed my AV ports, ie. used AV1, 2. and 3 and still no such luck.

    My connections are as follows:

    Onkyo 7-1 surround system

    Verizon HD/DVR

connected via HDMI to TV from HD/DVR

    Thanks Ronnieh49,

Are you suggesting that there is not plausiable fix within my realm other than a costly visit to the repair shop? If that is my only option, then I must weigh my ROI for this TV. As with a doctor's opinion, I'm always open for other suggestions.

Horizontal bars? It sounds like the digital board is the culprit as these tvs had a few problems. The good news is the company wants to retain customers so call 1-800-SAMSUNG prompts 2, 1, 3, 1 and be very persistent. Get past the first levels and explain the situation. You wouldn't be the first person out of warranty to be offered a newer model for the cost of shipping with their company, otherwise unless you are electronically skilled, your best bet is to take it to a shop to get diagnosed for sure on what the problem is as it may be a couple other things too but the digital board is the best bet from your description.

Check the cabling between the DVD player and the screen first. Next make sure that both the DLP50 and the DVD player are not in confined spaces where air flow is blocked. This could be a heat issue, too. Im banking the "working after unplugged for 5 min" to heat. How long have you had the DLP 50?

I have a Samsung HL-R5067W DLP HDTV. I have HD cable from Comcast. My TV plays the HD signal flawlessly. The non HD channels have columns and rows of colors on the screen. The picture can sort of be made...

this could be 1 of 2 things--either the light engine or the digital board--i'm betting on the board because hd cable is good--light eng/cost prohibitve--board maybe !!

DLP HL-R5067W

Your model has a maximum resolution of 720p. What you might want to do is make sure that both your cable/sat box and game stations are outputting at no more than 720 resolution. It's easy to assume that all HDTVs may accept a higher signal, and while they might, some of the scene changes or handshakes may make that operation cause the symptoms you describe.
