Re: retreive a wep key
You cannot get your web key from your laptop. You need to loginto the router, which if your not good with this stuff, you have not changed the password and your user guide will tell you the address you type in and user name and pass. Like - 192.168.1.2 Belkin is different From there you can find the wep key and make a new one if you wish.

First you need to check is if the WEP key that you are entering is the WEP key of your router. Try to connect a laptop to your computer which do not belong to the network. Say, your friends laptop. This laptop will ask for a security key if it's the first time to connect to the network. Enter your security key and see if the laptop can connect to the network. If it did not connect then the problem is your WEP key.
The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key.
The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings.
To connect to your wireless router, it needs the router'swireless settings configured ie SSID, WPA or WPA2 encryption key and also thewireless cards in all the laptops and or computers needs to be configured withthese router's wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktop computers cancommunicate with your wireless router.
Welcome to Fixya. If you need the WEP key or Network Key you need to access the Wireless Settings Page.
To access the router page just open a browser then type 192.168.1.1, the Default username is blankand the password is admin. Go to the Wireless Tab select Wireless Security under the Security Mode you will see there Network Key or Wep Key. The Network Key or Wep Key serves as a password or security code on your network to make it secure.
If you lost the key, then the best thing to do is to reset the router back to it's original factory default. Usually the reset button on the back of the router, hold it down for 10 seconds, and it should reset. Then go into the router and set back up your WEP key in order to put in on your laptop or desktop for access.
plug a laptop or pc to the router with an ethernet cord. go to internet explorer and type in "192.168.1.1" log in to your router then go to security tab (depending on your router model) you are looking for WEP or WPA password. Change the password (write it down as well) and save your settings
On the back of your router there is a reset button, hold it down for 3o seconds or so, this will reset the router back to factory settings, the default user name and password would be admin, note that sometimes with the belkin you only need the user name and not the password. Usually you need admin/admin though.
The default IP address to access the router when its reset is 192.168.2.1
In order for you to find your routers address, click START, RUN, type CMD followed by RETURN or ENTER, and type IPCONFIG/ALL followed by RETURN or ENTER. Look for DEFAULT GATEWAY. Put that address in your browser to access it.
Use a computer that is currently connected to the router. Open Internet Explorer and go to http://192.168.2.1 It will ask you for a user name and password that you created during set up. The password is blank by default. You are then logged into the router and can view or change the WEP key, or any other settings for the router.
