Try pressing the menu and center button together and hold them until it reboots.
If it comes on, go to settings and backlight and turn the backlight on for longer, like 20 seconds.
If the problem is not solved, return the ipod to the store it was purchased. It is new enough to still be under warranty.

Locked ipod nano

Did you first slide the hold switch to HOLD and then back before holding the menu and center buttons down together? That worked for my iPod nano 4th generation after it "locked up" and became non-responsive.

Hi, Try this out...

1) Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
2) Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

Ipod nano 4th generation hold switch won't turn off, icon remains on the screen and cannot use any of the buttons

First, connect your iPod to your computer, slide hold switch on and off, and hold the Middle + Menu button for 30 seconds.

If that doesn't work, disconnect your iPod and slide switch on and off, and hold the Middle + Menu button for 90 seconds or less.
