Question about Canon Rebel XT / EOS 350D Digital Camera

1 Answer

On my rebel xt, buttons are sticking.

Seems maybe sand or something is making a couple of buttons hard to depress. Should I send it in, or can I take it apart?

Do not attempt taking it apart, get it cleaned by a professional.

Check if something is blocking the in-built flash to pop up or if it is stuck. If the flash is stuck press the flash pop-up button and try pulling it up simultaneously.

Canon EOS Rebel Error message E05

Go the the Canon support website and enter your camera model. If there is something you can do, it's there.
The E05 error says the lens is jammed or not working correctly. My guess is you need to take it to Canon.
This happens if sand gets in the lens or the camera is dropped.

Button sticks when taking pic

The sticky problem may caused by soda or food type of stain. It is best cleaned with amonia based cleaner such as "windex". You do not want to use too much solution on the area. So get a Qtip, windex and air spray. Wet just the edge of the Qtip with windex and go around the edge of the release button. While moist blow the air spray. Try it one more time. This should clear any particle creating friction with the release button. Otherwise the top cover need to be disassembled to clean deeper. Hope this works. -James For further assistance, go to www.camerarepairjapan.com

Auto focus does not work in creative modes

That is a custom function of the camera that can be change back to default with ease. While in one of the creative zones press the menu button and navigate to the 5th and final tab on the top right. 8f5da8f.jpg
This is the Setup menu 2. In this menu, select “Custom Functions (C. Fn)” . This will open a submenu of numbered options. Select #04 and set it to 0: the default AF/AE lock on a half depress of the shutter. 7528356.jpg
That should get your camera back to the expected auto focus with the shutter button.

Rebel xt; flash won't fire

Two tiny black plastic rods, one on each side under the flash. From the front the one on the left is much longer than the one on the right. Check with your finger if they are spring loaded and move freely. If either is stuck down that is you problem. You could try a TINY amount of Iso-Propyl alcohol on a cotton bud to clean them if stuck.
Please post if this helps you so others will know

Canon XT powers on then dies

Your looking at a bad DC/DC board. Probably about $250 repair. I wouldn't trash it. as it is still a good camera.

Error 99

I get error 99 sometimes on my 20 D but it?s usually to do with a lens that is attached. Sigma lens have been known to cause error's. If it's not that or dirty contact on the lens then it could be a more serious problem. I would at least check it out with a canon dealer/repair centre.
