Blowing the breaker

I have a 5hp 80 gal ingersoll air compressor I have had it for 2 years runs perfect but last night It had a short cycle a poped the breaker. It didn't trip the button on the motor so I fliped the breaker and it will run for 10 15 sec a pop it again. The motor seams like it turns faster than normal

If you had a clap aroubnd amp meter you woudl take a reading to determine excess current draw. Most likely the motor is worn and rubbing inside due to worn bearings?

Sounds like you have a bad nutural feeding to the main or its set up for 110 and running on 220. Check the incomming voltage at the wire feed to the motor. If anyone has replaced a breaker or a wall plug close to the unit or any palce in the structure Im betting this feeds back to your air compressor some how. and somethign is differant than it used to be.
Their is no way it could turn faster unless the voltage is way up. Chack the Name plate also on the motor some are dual voltage and maybe its wired up for low volts and on higher. Catch it early like tbhis and it will be ok.
PLEASE RATE ME ACCORDINGLY I THIS HELPS. And GOOD LUCK

I did not drain the tank on my 80 gal comp now trying to drain I only get a trickle out of the drain line. Help

Take drain plug completely out of bottom of the tank and remove the outlet plug on the side of tank. pour 1 gallon of clean water into tank and stir up sediment. . Replace the side plug and start compressor , keep this up until drain water runs clear not orange. Then re install everything and check tank pressure and for leaks.

What size breaker do I need for a Ingersoll Rand Model TS4N5

Look at the motor tag. It should give you the run amps which I believe is about 22. What ever your amps are on the tag multiply by 1.5. If it comes up like my example (11 + 22 = 33) go to the next available size. Like 35 or 40. This should size the breaker to get the unit through start up.

I have a 80 gallon 5 hp ingersoll model #2475N5 serial #30T900896. Im using 10-3 wire on 40amp doible pole breaker. as its building air when it hits @50 psi it slows down. if I pull the pop off valve on...

T wo suggestions. 1- check the check valve located in top of the receiver tank by letting the unit pump up to 50 psi. shut it off and loosen the copper tube at the HP cylinder. if no air blows out the check valve is good. If it's bad it will blow until it empties the tank. If the check valve is bad replace it. 2- Tighten the drive belt. If neither corrects the problem remove the guard and rotate the pump by hand. If it's hard to rotate you have a pump problem.

I R Ts4 5hp 80 gal 175 psi 230 volt Air leaking from near pressure switch. Replaced switch but still leaking near 1/4 tubing. Thanks

You have a receiver tank check valve leaking. If you loosen the 1/4 tube slightly and air blows out more and will not stop replace the tank check valve. If you follow the copper line for the compressor HP head back to the tank you will see that the line screws into the check valveand the check valve screws into the tank. Bleed all air from the tank, remove the 1/4 line and the 3/4 line from the check valve. Then unscrew the check valve. Install a new check valve and connect the lines. Problem solved.

Hi i have an Ingersoll rand 80 gal, 7.5 hp, model #2475 air compressor and the electric motor is arcing when trying to run then blows the breaker. Any ideas? thanks

It sounds like either a problem with the brushes in the motor or the engine shaft is jammed. Have you on many previous occasions run the compressor on that circuit with no problems? It may be as simple as the breaker is not sufficient for the power draw of the compressor.

If you have had the unit for awhile and it has been run lots and the engine shaft spins easily when turned by hand (unplug first) then it may be an issue with the brushes on the electric motor. Take the engine apart and replace the brushes with new ones from an electric motor shop. Take pictures as you disassemble the unit so you will be able to refer to them when it comes time for reassembly.

If the motor shaft does not turn by hand, remove the belt that connects it to a compressor and try again. If this works, reconnect the power and see if the electric motor now works with power on and the belt off. If the motor works and there is no short to throw the breaker, then your compressor is in need of a rebuild and that will cost money and time.

I have a new ingersol rand 80 gal 7.5hp air compressor 230volt single phase and was wondering what size breaker it needs to be put on

Your owners manual spec sheet should give you that answer. However since that unit at max loads should pull 32 to 35 amps I recommend 1.5 times max amps. So approximately a 50 amp breaker. This all based on standard wire size and length of wire run. Also when checking your voltage at load you should be showing 235 to 240 volts.
