If you are running Windows XP or VISTA, "right click" the speaker icon in the lower right part of your desktop. It is on the right side of the taskbar. Go to "Open Volume Mixer" where it should have individual sliders for "Microphone" "Master Volume" "Line In" etc. Try lowering the "Microphone" or "Line In" volumes to a better level. You'll know which one to move if you try to speak or make any sound into the microphone of the device you want to adjust, you'll see an indicator bar next to the slider move, depending on how loud you speak. Oh, make sure the program you are trying to run with the cam is on and the cam is up and running.

If you have Realtek HD Audio like I have, there will be 2 speaker icons in the same taskbar, one red, one silver/gray. If you have that, then use the red one (Realtek) and go to sound manager. Open the tab of the device you want to adjust and do the same thing, adjust the one that is giving you problems. Here there will be 2 sliders, one for playback and one for recording. Try the playback first or mute it completely, that should help.

If you are still having problems, reply with a comment in this thread so I can find it easier. I hope I could help you get started. Good luck and don't forget to rate! Thank you!

Why are my volume buttons not working?

The drivers are missing for those controls. May need to reload the drivers via Dell website. I believe the intended So for the 1525 is Vista. Running windows 7 may not provide all the drivers.

How do i fix my volume

Hi Ashlee, Is it the overall volume or is it an individual Application that has low volume?
The volume control in the menu bar shows the whole system volume but many apps have their own volume controls - and if they are set low then turning up the system volume will have no effect.

Distorted sound playing music from Youtube or BBC Iplayer

First off, most Youtube videos have bad sound but most likely is you need to lower the volume for FLASH via the sound mixer. Both are using flash. Turn down the volume for flash videos. You also have volume control with the video themselves.

Awful High-pitched Noise and Echo Feedback

Normal 0 Two things can cause static.
First, If you have your speakers turned up to high it will give you feedback causing distortion and static. I recommend using a headset when videoing.
Second reason is, if you are using a laptop and have added an external microphone between the two it will cause distortion and static.
Not knowing the configuration of your computer makes it harder to analyze the problem.
So hope this is of some help. Bud
