Check to see if they are on the same channel, and if both have good batteries, batteries can be good for receive but not have enough power left in them to transmit.

How to play music through a chatterbox xbi

Hi Eddie,
Is this a 2-way radio or some other device?

If the latter is correct, as I think it is, then you've posted on the wrong forum.

Try Cars & Trucks forum, they may be able to assist, other wise look through the list of available forums specific to your device.

LCD showing unlck and beeping

New or used? Or look for the unl key and press it down for 3-5 seconds on the beeping one. It could be a variety of problems, esp. if used.

Can the gmrsx1 talk to the hjc-frs

Yes, the Chatterbox is a GMRS / FRS Radio transmitter. If both radio transmitters are tuned to the same channel/subchannel, they should have no problems interacting.

I have to scream just to get heard

Two things to check:
1) Check to see if your mic hole or area might have something covering the mic or debris in the hole.
2) If your radio has separate setting for Narrowband and Wideband channel spacing, yours may be set differently than the others.

If neither of these are the issue, your radio may need repair or replacement, as you might have a bad mic.

Best regards.

All gmrs radios also have frs frequencies in them. The frequencies are staggered.....1 frs....1 gmrs....1 frs....gmrs etc etc.
The only difference between frs and gmrs is power.... you are allowed to use more power on gmrs freq. So thats why they have more range. But the frequencies are right beside each other.

I would be surprised if your friends radio did not have frs channels in it also.
They should be able to communicate... most likly not on every channel but there should be some that the 2 of you share.
