my tv has no picture or sound but the power light comes on....

  • DDaisylover Apr 19, 2009

In the middle of watching a program the tv turned off and never came back on. I unplugged it and took the back off and looked around for any loose connection but was none. But when you plug it back in the tv makes a sound as if it was turning on but didn't. With looking in the back of tv after plugging it back in there were two small lights that came on but then faded out. It had been taken to the shop and cost 700 dollars to get fixed and only have had it for i think it has been at least four months. Now the tv repair guy said that if the tv didn't turn on, that we should remove the back and press something down and then try again but my husband doesn't remember where, do you think you can help us.

Sharp aquos 60" TV has sound but only a gray picture. Was fine then, went gray. Help?

Do you see the menu when you press the menu button. If the menu looks ok, then you may have a problem with one of your inputs. Try a different input port and change the TV to that input. Also try a new cable and try a DVD input or other video source to help isolate the problem.

Tv has no picture

If you have lost your picture you can try a few steps. The first step would be to reset your receiver by unplugging it for ten seconds. If that does not resolve the issue, you will need to check the cable going from the receiver to the TV set. Start by making sure it's firmly connected. If the cable is a coax cable (screws on) tune the TV set to each of the following channels to see if you can get a picture: 3, 4, 60, 73 If you have a digital cable that just plugs into the receiver and the TV then you will want top cycle inputs until you receive a picture. To do this press the input or source button on the side of your TV you will see the name of the input flash at the top of the screen. Press the input button multiple times to change from one input to the next. Make sure to pause on each input for a few seconds to make sure the picture comes up. Do you mean the VT2430? Viewsonic doesn't list a VY2430.

For my Viewsonic TV, first make sure that your input is TV. (Press the Input button on the remote (upper left) or the TV (furthest right). Use the arrow keys or multiple presses of Input to change the current input.) Next press Menu. Use the up/down arrows to navigate to the TV menu (the icon looks like a TV). Press Enter. Set the type of incoming TV signal (Cable or Air or let the tv figure it out with Auto). Then go down to the line labeled AutoScan and press Enter. You may be prompted to begin the scan or to select the type of channels to scan. Press Enter again after making the selection.

Viewsonic has the manual for the VT2430 available on their site: . The direct link is .

I hope this helps.

I have ATT U-verse, (it's own remote). Using the LG remote, I try to adjust color, too red and too green, otherwise, BEAUTIFUL!! Now, it lets me look at brightness, contrast, but not color, just skips...

You will have to access the service menu. From it, you can reduce the luminance of the red and green bands.

To enter the menu, press the menu button the TV panel and hold it down then press the menu button the remote simultaneously.
In a few seconds, you will be prompted for a 4 digit password.
The password is 0000. Enter it with the remote.

There are two menus that will alternate upon entering it with this method, which one comes up depends on the last time the service menu was entered if it ever was.

You can navigate the menu with the remote. Find the selections labeled for R G B. This stands for red, green and blue. There will be more than one input available for these selections, make sure you select the input that your ATT-U-verse is connected to by toggling through the menus.

Adjusting your red and green;
After finding your proper input and your adjustments for RGB with that input, toggle down to the selections labeled as RGB gain. Reduce the numbered value by 2 or 3 points for R and G and press enter on the remote. Then press menu. This will return you to your input currently use, preferably the input you are adjusting. Using the same picture every time, such as a freeze frame picture that was not to your liking, repeat this process until you are satisfied.
Keep in mind that all colors will interact together. If you find that after making the R and G adjustments together tends to make your red tones appear to be too muted or more of a purple hue, return to the service menu as I described above and reduce the B (blue).

Going by eye is quite inaccurate but however; for a picture that isn't far off from your preference changing these values by only few points in the Gain channel will not make any drastic differences.

For a more accurate picture for your input in question, I recommend a monitor calibration tool such as the Spyder 3 TV. You could alternatively use a DVD based software such as Avia, but that is for your DVD that case you could simply use the settings from that calibration for your other inputs by manually copying them and that may work too. The Spyder is my best consumer based recommendation short of a professional calibration for your ATT U-verse input, the DVD is second but both are much much better than the naked eye.

The main menu appears and disappears without any input. And also a picture of a lock also appears and disappears without any inputs. The picture of the lock is either locked or unlocked

It seems that the problem is the monitor is detecting that the menu button is continually being pressed or the switch is shorted. Try pressing the menu button a few times to see if you can make this stop. Otherwise, the monitor needs to be repaired. Hope this helps.

If this does not work please change the cables you are using or try another input with the same and different cables. Attach another device to the tv to see if it is also a black and white picture.
