Re: Memory on HP ipaq 114.
There are two types of memory my friend
1. RAM 2. ROM both built in PDA
third type is Storage Card u can store music and photos there but u cannot merge it with RAM or ROM so pls try to understand this difference
secondly if u want me to help u out on this memory shortage
then u can reset the device i mean hard reset and re install ur applications by time ur ROM is occupied by some useless files and ur performance is de graded try to refresh ur OS Hard reset HP
iPAQ Setup Assistant Use HP iPAQ Setup Assistant to simplify
configuring settings on your HP iPAQ. HP iPAQ Setup Assistant
lets you save the settings on your computer. This can help you restore
configuration settings on your HP iPAQ at any time. HP iPAQ Setup
Assistant also allows you to perform a factory reset on
your HP iPAQ and view detailed product information.
To hard reset HP iPAQ 114: - press and hold the 3 buttons Windows, OK and REC - press the reset button for about 3-4 seconds and release it - release the 3 buttons
u can see the video for that but it is in russian lang but self explanatory
third option is if u want to really get rid of this slow performance and shortage of space just get a clean CUSTOM ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/ for ur PDA strictly at ur OWN RISK
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Your slot in the iPAQ is a SD slot, not a SDHC slot - therefore it will not read the card. Your PC card is probably a dual reader. The SD cards look the same but are different. Have a read of this...
I'm posting your solution here to remove it from the unsolved problems list.
Solution by Robert:
This problem was finally resolved as a corrupted map file on the SD memory card in the hp ipaq 5550. Solution was to reformat the memory card using fat32 memory format. I used a SD memory card slot on my laptop and right click the drive letter and select format to format the memory card. After that, I reloaded map files to the memory card and all was OK. Note that previously I had loaded map files on the memory card successfully but that was not good enough. A reformat of the memory card was apparently needed. I had also previously tried a hard full reset of the ipaq by pressing and holding the lower two buttons (calendar and itask) while holding in the reset button with the stylus for 5 seconds and resynced my contacts and reloaded the gps software, but this was to no avail. Try the re-format.
Mem cards are added as storage cards and do not add up to your iPaq RAM.
You can use mem cards to add up space to install applications. (ie. it is something similar to installing a new Harddrive on your PC). However the physical RAM of your iPaq cannot be extended.
PocketPC programs have small RAM requirements so your PDA's built-in RAM will suffice.
As far as the maximum card size if I understood your question right, if your iPaq comes with Windows Mobile v5 or earlier, it supports SD cards up to 2GB and perhaps some non SDHC standard SD cards up to 4GB. If you can upgrade to WM6, then WM6 supports SDHC cards, so you can install >4GB cards.
memory card isn't really memory it's more like a disk drive. it's not like when you add memory to a PC and the new memory is automatically used.
To make use of this card you need to transfer some of your larger files to the card....
You can move files from within the ipaq...
Click and hold on file.
Click and hold
Navigate with File Explorer to the SD card....
Open File Explorer
Select My device
Now select SD Card
You can create a new folder or select an existing folder
Click on Edit at bottom of screeen.
You can also move files directly from PC to Storage card......
While IPAQ is connected, go to My Computer, then double-click on Mobile Device, then double-click on Pocket PC. Now you will see your Storage Card, and you can use this just like a folder on your PC. You can create folders within it. You can click and drag files to it or to any of it's folders.
The bad news is that many of the programs you might like to do away with are built into the ROM, and can't be deleted. The good news is that most programs will run perfectly well if installed on the storage card, so if you've got programs installed in main memory, you can realize some savings by running them from the storage card instead..
If you go that route, be sure to Remove the program from main memory and then re-install it to the storage card.
