Question about IBM ThinkPad T42 Notebook
My friend's IBM ThinkPad T42 has a problem with it's view. It is zoomed and the colors are messed up. I think it is because the zooming. I tried go into properties-settings and adjust the screen area that is set to 640 by 480 pixels, to 800 by 600 pixels but it keeps returning to 640 by 480. Also the colors only have 16 colors. I also tried in controls panel-accessibility options-display, but there is nothing for me to fix there. Is there anything that I can do with this computer besides throwing it away?
It also has Windows 2000 installed in it. How to upgrade it to at less to Windows XP?
Well it seems its vedio driver problem, you have to look for the vedio driver and update , now your vedio cards use generic driver and doesnot let you choose the right settings, if you know your vedio name it will be easy if not do this:
right click on my computer...... then hit manage..... then select device manager, check if you have a yellow question mark on display adapter??? if yes this means you need to install the driver, if no copy the name and look for update.
Is your board use seperate vedio card means build out card or you use the same card comes from board (build in), all this can make it easy for you to determine your card type and name.
About updating the operatins system its is easy, put the xp cd on ur dvd rom , when the automtic run cd comes it will ask you, whether you wona install windows or update you can simply use update.
Windows 2000 Professional, SP1, SP2 and SP3 can be upgraded to Windows XP Professional only. The windows 2000 professional cd-rom is taken as valid install media to do a 'clean' install using an upgrade version of XP Home.

The problem is the video driver, either it has been corrupted or uninstalled, that is why the display is set to standard VGA settings of 640X480 with 16 colors.
You can check this by going to the Control Panel - Display - Settings - Advance and check the Adapter.
To fix this problem install the Video driver.
