Soundslike a "low charge" or inefficient compressor. defimalty a "sealed system repair" needed, nothing for a homeowner, and depending on age may not be worth costof repair, check your owners manual, you should have at least a 5yr warr.

Where is the drain for the freezer

What type of fridge is it? Side by side or freezer top mount. Meaning freezer on top and fridge on bottom. On both those styles of fridges. The drain hole for the water to run out during the defrost cycle is behind the back panel. And then under the coil at about the center of the coil in a top mount. In a side by side it will be a little bit off center of the coil on the inside back wall. If it's not frozen over its easy to see there is a drain hole there. The thing I keep referring to as the coils is that aluminum tubing going thru the flat plates & it will have a defrost heater or heating element at the bottom. if that coil is frozen solid then that is the reason your fridge side isn't getting cold. It's not defrosting. Depending on the brand it could be a defrost heater, sensor, or timer issue. Best way to thaw a coil is with boiling hot water , pour it in the coil. Only thing is doing it that way will over fill your drain pan and makes a mess. So if you have a hair dryer or the very best thing I think to use. A hand steamer. They make steamers for clothes or for cleaning. Both will work. But I prefer the steamer for cleaning. It comes with a bunch of different tips & an extension hose. Works great for thawing and cleaning the drain hole too.

Hope that helps you and anyone else a little but. I tend to write too much in my answers but I was always told more is a good thing with most everything.

How dd the freezer get cold all parts

Most problems with lack of freezing in part of the freezer is a matter of overloading the freezer. Things get frozen in the freezer by the circulation of air. If the air gets blocked the food will not freeze, same thing occurs in the fresh foods section, if the air from the freezer is blocked to or from the freezer the fresh food side will not cool properly. Make sure in the freezer there is a path down the back of the freezer and up the front for air to circulate to and from the evaporator coils in the back.
Hope this helps

American fridge/freezer - fridge stopped cooling, freezer side ok

Have you pulled out the refrigerator and cleaned or used a vacum cleaner to get out the dirt and dust off the back of the coils, or if the coils are underneath, you need to get an inexpensive appliance brush for fridge, and clean the coils under the fridge, pull off the panel on the front bottom of the fridge, get a flash light and look to see if the coils are covered in dust....may just need to vacum and use appliance brush underneath...this should be done at least one a year, you will notice your fridge running much better and cooling back to normal.......hope this helps......

Freezer and frige not that cold

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp ..
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

How to check everything

Fridge not cold freezer is fine

Your defrost element is faulty, this is attached to the bottom of the freezer coils and also has a defrost limiting thermodisc which should be replaced at the same time. You are getting a freeze up and therefore no air circulation. Also check that the fanmotor is ok.

I have a GE side by side refrigerator, model TFX26KRDA, serial LZ245571. For the past few weeks I have noticed an ice buildup on the back panel of my freezer section. Also the freezer isn't super cold and...

while you have the freezer panel out look at the defrost heaters to see if they are burnt up, there may be 2 heaters on a GE they look like glass tubes with a spring running through them on e at the very bottom and another about halfway up. a good heater will be faily clear a bad heater will look greyish and burnt on the inside. this is most common issue for ge defrost problems. if both heaters look ok. need to check the defrost sensor its mounted to the top of the coil it will have an orange and I think brown wire going to it it is a round disc looking piece. not sure if you have a multimeter if you do check it on ohms and yo should read infinity as long as the sensor is still frozen.
now if both of those check good then only thing left is bad defrost control which means replacing the motherboard loated on the back of your refrig.
shoot me a message if you have anymore questions.. thx peyton

Freezer works fine but the fridge won't get cold

It sounds like cold air from the freezer isn't making it to the fridge compartment. This can be cause by a several things. The damper that lets air into the fresh food side is stuck in "closed" position, the temp sensor (t-stat) isn't working properly, the evaporator fan (in the freezer comp above the coils) isn't working to blow air up to the fresh food section. In some situations, the defrost cycle for the freezer section isn't working and the coils have frozen into a block of ice and air can't flow over them properly so you get not cold air to the fresh food section but the freezer still stays cold due to the block of ice.
