Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

1 Answer

I have just installed a replacement Craftsman garage door opener, model 139.53985. Can I wire the existing doorbell-like button in parallel with the premium door control? This was the setup with the old GDO. The door control is at the back of the garage next to the door connecting to the house. The doorbell button is next to the garage door.

Yes you can have as many wall buttons as you want. Each wall button must have a wire directly from the button to the opener.

Probably just bad. You can replace it with a doorbell button or you can get the exact replacement from any local opener service company.

1 WIRE WITH RED TRACE

2 WHITE WIRES WITH NO TRACE

3 WIRE WITH GRAY OR BLACK TRACE

ALSO THE WIRE TO THE WALL CONTROL MUST BE WIRED CORRECTLY - DOUBLE CHECK - IT TELLS YOU WHITE AND RED TRACE OR 1 & 2

YES THE POLARITY MATTERS ON THE WALL CONTROL EVEN IF IT LOOKS LIKE JUST A DOORBELL BUTTON.

Garage door opener will not program the remote. After following directions on back of the opener the remote will not work. The doorbell button on wall the light keeps blinking. What do I do to fix this...

Reset both the units the door unit and the remote by cutting off supply for a while. Now it will move to the default settings. If the earlier process had hung the system then reset the codes given once again to allow the main control unit to lock on with the remote. follow as instructed till the remote locks.
If not contact the dealer as the main unit has some errors.

I have a Craftsman 139.53673SRT garage door opener. When I try to close door with remote or single push on doorbell control, the door reverses after 6-8 inches of travel - and big bulb flashes 10 times. ...

When the main light flashes 10 times and the door reverses it is a door sensor problem. Make sure they are pointed at one another and that the small light on each one is lit and not flickering. Tweak them a bit. If you cannot get both lights to come on you have a bad sensor or wiring.

Craftsman Garage Opener (Unit run front & back only for 2 second)

Double check to make sure the sensors are wired correctly. The 2 solid white wires go to terminal 2 and the wires with black stripes go to terminal 3. If the wiring is correct then you possibly have a bad RPM sensor. The RPM sensor is a small circuit board just in front of the motor.

The garage door wall remote flashes and car remote won't work

Usually this can be corrected by programming the opener. Locate the smart/learn button on the back of the opener. It is just to the left of all those white wires. Hold the button down on your remote and then press and immediately release the smart/learn button. Do this for each remote you have.

Check wiring back to unit to make sure it's not shorted or broken. You can also reset the garage door opener by unplugging it for a few minutes and plugging it back in.

Garage Door Key Pad

Assuming, from what I read, the remote works..The inside switch is just a doorbell switch which will wear out or have the contacts get bent or dirty. Take off wall, and change for new one or see if the contacts can be cleaned or adjusted. If the pad is electronic (coded) the wires may be bad or the control defective. Usually momentary contact of the two wires will cause the door to actuate.
