Jeep 1992 yJ Outside Door Handle

Jeep 1992 YJ Door handle did not work, someone else took it apart and I am trying to fix it and put it back together, however I do not know where the pieces go. I am trying to find a diagram of this so I can fix the door

My door will not open from the inside or outside. At first, it did not open from the inside. Now the door does not open all together. I have tried several times to take the door apart but I have not been successful. Does anyone know how to fix it?

Ok, the inside panel is cardboard with faux leather. remove the screws holding on the inside handle and the frame of the doorlatch.

there is a plastic joint that connects the two rods that actuate and open the door. the rods are bent at the end to slip into the white plastic joint. this design is stupid and often times that joint can break, or the rods fall out. solution is to reattach them together and wrap mechanics wire or bend the very ends of the rods so they wont come out.

its something i cant really explain, but the design is straight forward. also, keep track of the threads on the rod that connects to the claw that meets the striker on the frame of the jeep. if for any reason its not adjusted properly, it will not latch properly.

I have a 1989 jeep yj it started blowing oil out the crankcase vent any ideas why

PCV bad. (or its hose pinched, clogged or even backward)
  1. PCV is failing fix this first for $5 or remove it and see how bad blow by is. visually. (remove only valve covers side to test )
  2. or cracked or collapsed piston.
  3. or cracked head gasket, compression tests pass?
yes one of the best jeeps are YJ, not full 10 stinking married computers , wish every day I never sold my 2002,
2002 is the last good jeep IMO

blow by is most mostly past bad piston rings, even warped cylinder from past overheated engine,

The YJ used a 2.5 L AMC 150 I4 or optional 4.2 L AMC 258 I6 until 1990

which one, 4 or 6 cylinders.???

YJ wrangler door wont close

Start out by checking the latch mechanism on the door. Use a screwdriver to "trip" the latch with the door open, then pull on the screwdriver against the latch gate. If it doesn't hold then you may have a bad latch (the springs in the latch can go bad over time). You can also try spraying penetrating oil (PB Blaster) into the latch and again using a screwdriver to trip the latch, then open with the handle, and repeat several times to work the oil into the mechanism and free it up (this trick also sometimes works with the springs on wiper arms that have lost tension). If the penetrating oil trick works, think about spraying dry lube or white lithium grease into the latch to help prevent it from happening again. If the door is misaligned, consider new hinge bushings, a misaligned door can cause damage to the door, and put tension on the door latch in a direction that puts pressure on the latch that it wasn't designed for.

DRIVER OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE WILL NOT OPEN DOOR. FROZE UP IN ICE STORM AND APPEARED TO BREAK WHEN TRIED TO OPEN DOOR. INSIDE HANDLE STILL WORKS TO OPEN THE DOOR. IS DIY REPAIR FEASIBLE? HOW MUCH WOULD IT...

DIY repair is possible. you must remove door panel inside and have window up to access the handle linkage from inside. The handle that you pull up on from outside, and the housing that surrounds it are usually a one-piece make. This work is tight and frustrating, take your time, look at how it fits together before you take it apart. Take pictures, make a drawing. I did this job on my celica and it was tough, but I took my time and got it done right. I can't tell you how much a shop would charge to fix it. smaller hands would have made things easier. . .lol. Good luck

The inside and outside door handles will not work on my wifes 1999 honda accord. The lock works but i cannot get the door to open. it feels like the handle isnt catching on anything.

latches are siezed and will require so help to open. try using a rubber mallet and tapping the outside door handle till it seems to have some resistance. you might have to tap alot. once the latch spring is in the right place then lock and unlock car to activate the clips and then pull handle. repeat untill door opens, then take door apart, remove latch and oil till all clips and spring move freely. Now put it all back together and it should work well.

1992 YJ can only shift into 3rd & 4th gear. No Reverse

The same thing happend to one of my wranglers, a 95 yj 4cyl 2.5 liter. The "Aisin AX-5" is the transmission that jeep used on the yj and tj 4cyl and 83 cherokee and up 4cyl, and the "Aisin AX-15"was used on some of the 6cyl models. Both are a "light duty" transmission according to the transmission manufacturer. As everyone knows, A jeep is no light duty vehicle, the shifting slider, a fork like item slides the gears back and forth over the drive and output gears to change the gears. and with heavy use or lack of maintanice they can break, they also can break cause of the cheap casting they used in the tranny. Other problems happen in those trannys too. The only thing is to tear the tranny apart and find out what failed and replace. I did this on the kitchen table ofer a day off. being the up own an early 90s yj, If you are one who doesn't work on their own car, I would find a good garage that is good with jeeps, they are not to expencive to fix, and when they are taken care of, will be a joy to own.
I hope this helps, Jeep ownership is a great thing.
