Hayward has all their owners manuals on the web at
http://www.haywardnet.com/aboveground/products/manuals.cfm#FiltersSand

if your model is older and not on the current list, you will find a model with the same top valves are yours as they haev made very little changes over the years.

Need instructions for proper start up/operation of filter

For the actual filter try this manual:
https://www.hayward-pool.com/pdf/manuals/Manual145.pdf

For the valve atop the filter try this one:
https://www.hayward-pool.com/pdf/manuals/manual18.pdf

If these are not the same as what you have please add a comment with the model number off your filter tank label and your valve.

Does the Hayward GM-245 Sand filter tank separate

I am not that familiar with the G series Hayward filters, but most sand filter tanks do not separate. It's a labor intensive job so think hard before trying it if you haven't before. If your backwash valve is on top of the filter, the plumbing will have to be removed. There are two ways that I have removed the sand. Scooping it out by hand or using a shop vac. Remember the sand is going to be very heavy when wet. You will need to go through the top. Some filters have a large drain plug in the bottom that "supposedly" you can drain the sand out through.I have done this once and it makes a big mess that you still need to clean up.

Be sure to buy replacement o-rings and gaskets as needed. There is also a product called a sand vac that is in essence a siphoning system.

Be careful not to damage the laterals it the bottom of the filter. When replacing the sand, I put small gravel (pea gravel) carefully under and partially around the laterals to help support them from the weight of the new sand.

When you are done, be sure to backwash the new sand to remove dirt, impurities, etc. This is a general overview. There are books online that give more detail or use a similar filter's manual...

I need to change the sand in a hayward model 711 sand filtration system. Are there any instructions for this out there?

While there is a model 711 Hayward Valve assembly, the actual filter is a different model number. You might be able to find your model here...

Sand filter is a week old,has been back wash twice but still having trouble, with kpa over 100

This can be a few different problems I will list them out for you:
  1. Make sure you are following the instructions in your Hayward owner’s manual. The sand bed may be clogged with mineral deposits or other material that will not backwash away. Some calcium based chlorines and other alternative sanitizers could cause a build-up in your sand bed. You may need to change the sand.
  2. Before you change the sand in you filter, try removing approximately 1” of the top layer of sand, and replace with the exact amount of sand removed. This sometimes rids the sand bed of the deposits clogging the filter.
  3. You may have to clean you filter system with a special filter cleaner, check with your Authorized Hayward dealer for proper procedures.
  4. Check to see if there is a closed or partially closed valve on the return piping.
  5. Your pump may be too small to provide sufficient flow for proper backwashing. Your filter will filter properly, but if your pump does not supply at least 60% of the filter’s designed flow rate, you filter will never backwash completely. Refer to the label on you filter for flow rate requirements. It may be necessary to upgrade the pump or downgrade the filter.
Your pump may also be exceeding the maximum allowed flow rate of you filter causing excessive backpressure. Check you Hayward filter owners guide or the operations label on you filter for the maximum allowed flow rate. You may have to downsize the impeller or pump to a lower horsepower or change the filter for one that will accommodate the pump’s flow rate. If allowed to continue, a pump that exceeds the recommended flow rate of a sand filter could cause the sand bed to channel (small channels in the sand that allow debris to pass unfiltered). This would cause debris to by-pass the filter.

Hope this helps you

How much sand do I need for a 200 series haywood filter

You should have 200 pounds of #20 Silica Sand in this filter. If you do not have enough sand, it will not filter to the best efficiency, too much and it will clog the filter.

For a copy of the Owner's Manual online, you can copy and paste the following link. Page 3 has the instructions you will need.

I NEED A LATERAL ASSEMBLY FOR MY SW256T SWIMPRO FILTER

The SW256T was a marathon group exclusive. It is not standard to the Hayward catalog. You are not going to be able to go into most dealers and ask for parts for a 256 and find it. The good thing is with the exeception of the tank( which should be greenish in color) All the parts used on the filter are in the hayward catalog and are used in other filters they sell.
You will need to call hayward, and find out the part number. Id love to say it's same standpipe on the S230T or 244T but I can't be 100%

Control Valve handle wont stay in position

The valve should be about $100. We sell it for 90 something. You can rebuild them with gaskets and the spring. There should be a model number on yours, care to post it? Something like SP711, SP714, etc.
