Hard drive problem

My old hard drive for my Dell inspiron 1525 laptop gave out on me, so I ordered a replacement, exept the replacement doesnt want to install. It says that it may take up to 60 minutes for the installation to complete, but I left it installing for about 5 hours and it didn't get anywhere. Help.

Did you do a FULL format when you were asked? What OS are you trying to install? Post back please...

Did you format the drive before you started the install?

Is the replacement being recognized in the BIOS? You can check this by pressing F2 when you first turn on the laptop and in the BIOS check device info to see if it sees the hard drive.

If it does recognize the hard drive, do you have the cd's that came with your laptop originally? It should be a windows Vista CD and a drivers and utilities CD.

Do you have the recovery CD that came with the laptop? If, is that the installation that you to which you referred? Is the drive detected correctly in the BIOS?

Let me know and I'll see if I can help. I have worked with Dell products for years.

I did a diagnostic test on a dell inspiron 1525 and everything passed except the hard drive with error code 0142, what does this mean and can it be fixed, thanks.

Hi,

Based on
Dell Pre-Boot System Assessment (PSA) Diagnostics and Error Codes For Dell Computers - KB Article - 30042,
it is a Hard Drive failure, and you need to replace the Hard Drive.

I suggest to try reinstall windows first before you replace the Hard Drive.

Hope it helps you.

Laptop dell 1525 : power on but no hard drive activity, then later turns on normally (window vista ,normal)and then frozen and after restart no hard activity again but power is on???

You can try running the DELL diagnostics which came with the computer or you can download them off another computer from the dell support website.
Once you get in the diagnostics package. Check the Hard drive, there will be a few testing parameters for the disk check them all.
If the hard drive fails in even 1 test, note down the error code and provide it to dell support who will replace the hard disk if it is still under warranty.
If you dont have warranty then you may need to buy a hard-drive yourself and have it fixed.

I have a two-year old Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop. for no apparent reason, it will now not boot up. When I turn it on, I get the following message......"Internal hard disk not found. To resolve this...

The hard drive may have failed or a virus has corrupted the Cmos data.
Try entering the BIOS and checking that the Cmos recognises that the hard drive is there. If it doesn't, remove the hard drive and re fit it, booting up again.

Error code 2000-0146 do i need new hard drive if so what is the replacement hard drive for a dell inspiron 1525 notebook pc thx

that error actually refers to a hard drive issue/failure. You may attempt a reformat and reinstall, but if it fails, you can proceed to get a new hard disk. You can get in touch with Dell for warranty replacement if applicable, or order a new hard drive. You may then decide either to get the same capacity or upgrade to a higher capacity drive.

The hard drive has failed. If you're in warranty, contact Dell for a warranty replacement of the drive - it's a customer-replaceable part.
If you're out of warranty, look on ebay for a good deal on a brand new hard drive for your Dell Inspiron 1525

Dell Inspiron 1525 Hard drive

There is a trick to getting an overheated and damaged hard drive to run for a short period of time, maybe enough to get your data off of it. Place the damaged hard drive in a tupperware bowl with a lid. Get a can of refrigerant from an auto parts store, wear gloves....open the refrigerant with the attached hose and direct the refrigerant into the bowl keeping as much in there as possible. This will freeze the bearings and in a lot of cases allow the device to work for short period of time. This of course will not work if the problem is a damaged read/write head or controller card.
