Question about Panasonic PT-53WX42 53" Rear Projection Television

Panasonic PT-53WX42F convergence

I replaced my convergence chips today with some purchased from MCM Electronics. I assume they are Sanyo mfg chips per their listing. My set had the STK392-110 and I replaced with the STK392-180 as seen mentioned in several places on this forum. All went well, cleanly removed old ones and inserted the new ones in place. Soldered the new ones in. Checked all my resistors, ordered (6) 2.2ohm 2W just in case. When I powered up set came on for 2 seconds then I hear the famous sizzle. # flashes of power light and the smell of something burning. I unplugged the set, pulled rear cover off. Could not really tell what it was but could still smell it. I plugged back in and turned on. this time I was watching the rear of the set. Resistor R7050 started glowing. I unplugged. I cannot find any bridged solders with what I have done. I verified the resistor is still not opened ( I will change once complete). I have looked for a service manual to see what could be causing the resistor to have the excess flow through it with no luck. Any suggestions? Could the chips I ordered be second hand? We have always had good quality from MCM in past.
Thank you, If anyone has a service manual for this set please let me know.

Well just powered unit on and the resistor R7050 opened up on me. Now I do have a picture but it will not convergence. I am going to replace the resistor that I purchased and see what happens.

Anyone? Also if anyone by chance has a service/repair manual for this PT-53WX42F model and could send it I would appreciate it.

TV is running alright. I found a cold soldered point. Now I need the factory default settings to put into the service menu. I am able to enter it and adjust the alignment but it is way off. I found a service manual for another model, but somethings are not same. For the convergence grid/template that is available, I am also trying to find the demensions for it.The manual I have tells what the dimensions are but not acceptable for my model. Currently I dont have a need for the entire manual, only a few pages from it pertaining the the request above. thank you,

Panasonic PT-53WX42F does not turn on, gives single flash code

my tv had the same problem and the B+140 was low. When I measured it, it was 89volts unfortunatly led me to the Flyback tra$former. after alot of troubleshooting work, I realized that the primary is short circuited. Also the horizontal output xsitor heats up alot on start up, thankfully it doesn't blow :)

I've had panasonic flybacks do this before to me. I havn't replaced my Flayback yet but when I pony up the $65.00 I expect (and pray) the TV to work fine. There is an off chance that something like the splitter or the foucus block caused this failure, but I doubt it.

Same problem with 53wx42f will kit work for this repair

What kit??? convergence kit???? If so YES

Your TV most likely has a convergence failure. ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

No picture and sound led light keeps flashing every couple of sec

Your convergence chips are bad. Your resistors may also be bad. Convergence chip part # is stk392-110 although you can also use 150 or 180's. (Get genuine SANYO chips) The resistors can be purchased from NEWARK
Unless you have electronics knowledge I would not attempt this repair. There is information here and like HERE
Good luck

Stk394-160 Convergence IC, number on top right of chip

I have read both of the above posts.
On the first post, the 'codes' are the date codes. Both parts were manufactured in 2007, and will have no bearing on performance, should both lots not be the same as they were manufactured on different weeks.

On the second post:
There is allot of misinformation on the web pertaining to the applications of STK394-160(E)'s.
This special device was manufactured by Sanyo exclusively for Hitachi PTV's. They will not work in any other projection TV's except for Hitachi. Let me say this again, "They will not work in any other projection TV's except for Hitachi." The 'E' suffix is the nomenclature for PB Free or lead free. All STK394-160's were manufactured as 'lead free'. The 'E' will not appear on the part. Here's more information:

For Hitachi PTV's ( Projection TV's ), STK392-150 replaces STK392-110. STK392-120 should be replaced with STK392-120 or STK394-160's in matched pairs. The -120's are 4 amp devices while both the -110's and -150's are 3 amp. We market replacement kits for -110's that contain two original Sanyo STK392-150's and the associated resistors along with solder and resistor designations for all models. We also have an STK394-160 Kit, along with solder and resistor designations for all models.

Prelco electronics is a direct purchaser of STK's IC's directly from Sanyo Semiconductor Distribution. If you would like the real parts, your search has ended. Parts can be ordered on line, or toll free: 888-773-5268, ( 908-429-9999 local ) Sales X 2, http://www.prelcoparts.com

Panasonic 47 inch Projection tv PT-53WX42F

Sounds like your convergence chips are going. Unless you are real handy with soldering iron I would suggest having a tv repair shop service it(probably cost $200-300). If you are handy then I believe the chips you need are Sanyo STK392-110. There should be 2 of them. be careful if you order them online, there are lots of chinese knock-offs out there.

Convergence adjustments

did you use the proper STK IC's Do the replacement IC's have SANYO on the face of them? If they do not, this could be your problem. You must use the IC that the manufacturer recommends. All IC's are not alike. Go to MCM electronics and enter your IC number and they sell original SANYO IC's. Good Luck
