I have found with any serger I have used that you have to cut the looper (bottom) threads before re threading the needle threads. You then rethread the loopers.
If you don't do this, the needle threads keep breaking. Hope this helps.

Cut all the threads just above the tension disks and rethread from the beginning. Make sure to thread in the recommended order or it will never serge properly: UPPER Looper first, LOWER Looper second with the thread tail Crossing Over the Upper Looper as the last step, then thread the needles.

How to fit needle in nina 787 overlocker

Perhaps it is not the correct needle for the machine. There are some needles that are a tad bit longer than the standard sewing needle (my non-Bernina coverstitch takes a longer needle). Although not familiar with the 787, most Bernina sergers use the same needle as a Bernina sewing machine.

When installing the needle, be sure to push it all the way up (as far as it will go) when tightening the skrew.

If it continues to break the needle, the machine could be out of time and need service.

Bernina 335 serger won't sew/overlock. carefully rethreaded the serger but that hasn't helped.

The 335 has a two thread chain stitch (stitch type 401), and the overlock side (right needle side), is a three thread plain overlock. If you are describing the plain overlock as the problem, I would first suggest the following in re-threading:

1. Thread the upper looper
2. Thread the lower looper
3. Thread the needle last (important)

If the needle threaded, you cannot re-thread the lower looper without breaking the thread.
In order to thread the lower looper, the lower looper must pass by the needle thus picking up the needle thread. So, instead of threading the lower looper thread underneath the needle thread, the looper would be threaded on top and cannot sew without breaking the thread.
Make sure that the threads are bedded between the tension disks. Check this by stretching the thread fore and aft of the tension disks as well as visually noting that the threads are not accidentally threaded behind the disks. You can also loosen the tension disks when threading so as to allow the threads to bed deeply between the disks.
Please reply with your observations.

Why would the lower looper thread be cutting in a new overlocker machine?

Tensions, broken finger on needle plate, burrs on the needle deflectors, threaded in the wrong sequence, low quality thread are all common reasons why the thread breaks. Threading sequence is extremely important on a serger.

When I thread and use Three thread cover Stitch the right hand needle thread continously breaks while sewing I've changed the tension and no joy I was sewing hem on leasure wear

Try rethreading all the threads making sure you thread in the recommended order: Upper Looper first, Lower Looper second with the tail Crossing Over the Upper Looper as the last step, then thread the needles.

I have inherited a Bernina Activa 140 and have the manual, have followed instructions to the letter but the thread keeps breaking, the bobbin is O.K. It sew for about 3 stitches and then the thread breaks

Check the manual to be sure the needle is inserted correctly.

Also - check the needle to be sure it is not bent and that there are no burrs or nicks on the throat plate.

Berninas hold their value and it is worth investing in the service fee to have the machine thoroughly gone over by a Bernina certified tech.

Problem with thread allways breaking. think its something to do with the block that the needles are mounted in. the block is at an angle instead of inline with the the machine. which then puts the two...

Most sergers on the market have needles that decend on an angle. Only a few are not made that way. Don't try to straighten it, the rest of the machine is designed with that "slant" in mind. Breaking thread in a serger can be many different things. Here are a few simple checks:
1. Change the needles
2. Make sure the thread is pulled deep into each tension unit, sometimes the thread will "ride" on the outside of the discs instead of being deep between the discs.
3. Check the needle plate and the loopers for rough areas. Sometimes the needles strike these parts and cause "burrs" which can grab the thread and not let go of it properly and it breaks or shreds the thread.
4. Some needle plates have pin like guides pressed into them. The sewing needles decend between these plate guides, however sometimes when a serger jams they can be broken. Verify that they are still there. They are very important for proper stitch formation, If they're gone, a new needle plate is needed.

I hope this helps

BabyLock Proline upper looper thread keeps breaking

I ended up switching the spools of thread around. Apparently, even though I had purchased good quality threads, one of the spools was wound in a way that made the thread loop and twist around. So I put the offending spool of thread through one of the needles and put the needle thread on the upper looper. That seems to be working. By the way, BabyLoc was very unhelpful dealing with this problem.  Thank you!
