Wallpaper I had wallpaper that was in my cellar that had gotton wet it was a cloth wall paper nevertheless it smelled somewhat of mold. My husband put the paper on the wall which looks great but I still can smell an odor of the mole. Is there anything I can put in that room that will kill that smell? Thanks andrew080104@yahoo.com

A bag of charcoal will absorb most smells, but you need to get to the source of the smell. If the wall paper is cloth based, it should be safe to use a small mist spray bottle and a mild mix of disinfectant and bicarbonate of soda which should neutralize the smell.

When the unit is turned on, for the first 15 minutes or so, there is a distinct stale mouldy smell. I suspect dust collected on the unit coils is being wet by condensensation and it smells as the first air...

You can check the cause of that smell if you have the tools to open the unit. The first test is to place a piece of paper in front of the evaporator and start the fan. If the paper is **** or stays in front of the evaporator, you have a clean evaporator. If it is not ****, you need to open and clean the unit. The blower may be filled with dust and molds. It is best to find someone who knows how to work and clean your a/c unit

I have a dometic unit and i smell wath i beleve is mold. i open it up and i see mold? around the blower. how this mold form in the blades? may i get sick breathing this stuff? tank you very much.

Mold can make you very ill depending on which type of mold it is. Mold forms in dark, wet environments and can be hard to get rid of. Your a/c unit needs taken apart and each piece that has mold will need to be cleaned thoroughly and carefully before re-installation.

Sounds like you need to have the duct work cleaned by a professional.

Is your duct work in the concrete floor? If so check for water in the duct work. You can go to one of your supply grilles in the floor, take the grille up and look into the ductwork. If you have water, you need to find out if you have a plumbing leak or if it is just runoff from a hard rain. Nevertheless, it needs to be fixed.

Is your duct work in the ceiling? If so, and you still have mold, just have a professional duct cleaning company clean your duct work and it should solve your problem.

One other thing, make sure the condensate drain from your heater is not stopped up and dripping water into the duct work if the duct work is in the floor.

Look for where the condensation drains, it could be stopped up. If it drains into a pan, check it for mold & mildew. Even if it is a wet type to cool the compressor, drainage still needs to happen. Some times it can get moldy if the water sits.

We have a 1 horse power carrier split type a/c and the smell is nasty coming from a/c? also smells when it isn't running- smells like something dead .

Generally if an a/c smells nasty then there is a problem with the drain and the water is
making it's way elsewhere. I would be checking for damp walls , base mold and carpet
in adjacent walls and closets. Make sure the unit is draining properly (power off for servicing)
It is possible that a critter may be to blame but rather rare. Hope this helps.

well most unite will but out 54 degrees but as far room temp reaching that is highly unlikely. the unite would probably turn into a big hunk of ice and stop! this is more of Refrigeration unite which operate at lower temp. you can buy small ones fairly cheap. try EBay.

Moldy smell to air

I have a maytag ac unit that kept smelling moldy. We tried spraying with antifungal, only helped for a short time. I took the unit (ac unit slides out of window case) outside and carefully removed screws only to discover the fan was covered in mold!!!! Oh my what a horrible discovery! I washed the fan blades with bleach and water mix. I completely and carefully washed and wiped down the air conditioner careful around the control box. Then I let the unit sit outside in the sun untill completel dry. Good bye mold and fresh clean cool ac!! I will do this each year now that I saw that ugly mold!! That is definetly a health hazard! I would reccommend you either thouroughly clean your unit or pay someone to do it or get a new unit right away!! Don't use that moldy unit another day!! Good Luck!
