IBM TotalStorage DS300

ISCSI: HP MSA 1510i or IBM DS300

By Jimmy NY - usenet poster

Hello,

I'm looking for a iSCSI SAN and I'm between two Models:
IBM DS300
HP MSA1510i

The SAN is for connect 2 servers with Debian Sarge or Etch, there will be
any
problem to use this hardware with Linux?

From the IBM DS300 I've seen many post but from the HP MSA1510i I can't find

any.

Thanks

yes. i think that result really sucks.

with 25MB write, i would think the write might be handled as write
through. but read speed is too slow. maybe ibm should replace its target
code with IET. ;)

I have spent some time measuring IBM DS300 performance recently with QLogic
4010C HBAs. I assumed, that Gigabit ethenet interface would be the
bottleneck, so you can imagine how surprised I was to see the results of my
sequential throughput tests: 25 MB/s write, and 35 MB/s read on one
controller...

you mean both read and write?

assume equallogic can get wire speed. then ds300 will onlhave 25-30MB/s
which is pretty low.

With default settings, without tweaking, with 1 Gbit link, I got 3-4x better
throughput with Equallogic PS-200E than with DS300.

same with the IOPS results.

just feel curious, with 1Gb link, the performance difference should not
be that "day and night" ;) The difference shows in both read and writes
or just writes?

ps, you can try IET (#) if you want to
have a DIY target with money saved.

When I tried DS300, I found it to be really slow. Bad performance.

But of course it depends what you need. DS300 has fast SCSI disks, but sucky
raid controller or something.. or bad iSCSI target implementation.

Currently we are using Equallogic products, which are like the day and night
when compared to DS300 :)
