Laptop wont past bios..needs a password

I just bought a Toshiba laptop off a friend that did something he shouldn't have I've guess.

Here's the problem.. it starts to boot up then stops and asks for a password. This is before it even loads windows. It kinda looks like the bios screen. Any idea what I'm talking about?

If it is a bios password than you can go to this site for tips on getting around that password.

http://www.tech-faq.com/reset-bios-password.shtml

if it is a password for windows than you need this software reset the password, it can also recover it.

I have an Omni Book 500 That wont let me change the bios is there someway to get around that ?

I am guessing that you are attempting to use a non supervisor level password. There is usually a facility to set both a user (restricted function) password and a setup password (administrator rights access). You may need to reset the passwords within the bios setup.

Bios password

BIOS passwords can be reset or removed in two ways:

1. using software 2. using hardware.

I would first try resetting or removing using software, here are two software apps to reset or retrieve BIOS passwords.

!BIOS - is a PC BIOS toolkit offering password removal/decrypt and BIOS settings modification/backup/restore.
You can download it here:

CmosPwd - Cmos password recovery tools

You will need to create a bootable Dos, or Linux or NT cd in order to run them.

Is the AC Power adapter the original adapter of the laptop? If it is, try to drain the battery and charge it for 8-12 hours without using or opening the laptop just charge it. After charging, remove the power adapter as you open your laptop. Make this way a habbit of using and charging your laptop to make the charging and battery life last long.
