The usb port you are referring to is changing a low speed usb 1.0 to a high speed usb 2.0. on a desk top pc you can purchase a high speed usb 2.0 pci card, but on a notebook pc there really is no way to change over that.

This list of cardbus adapters on ebay should do the trick for you. You would have to use a pcmcia device (hopefully you have a slot available).

The packard bell easynote h5315 has 3 USB 2.0 ports. The many product reviews on the internet don't say exactly which ones are high speed. Ultimately it doesn't really matter unless you are thinking of copying large files greater than 1GB then it will take longer on a low speed port.

To test this I suggest you put a file larger than 500MB on a flash drive, then plug the flash drive into the first port and copy the file back to your notebook. Take note of the time it takes. Repeat this step with ports 2 and 3. Review the results together, the port/ports that copied the file the fastest are your high speed ports. The port/ports that took longer to copy the file are low speed. If all the ports take similar times to copy the file then all 3 are low speed ports.

My lap top dosent have a high speed usb port so my comp runs slower because my dongle is high speed how can i download a high speed usb for free

The USB is a hardware item and cannot be downloaded. you will have to update your computer or at least the motherboard. You more than likely have a USB1.1 and you need a USB 2.0 for the high speed.

When uploading pictures from my cameras SD card the computer suggests using a hi-speed USB port. I have tried the other ports and it tells me the same thing. Which port is the High speed? Dell Dimension...

you have no high speed ports installed on your computer. what you have is USB 1.0. you can however purchase a high speed USB pci card (usb 2.0) and install it in your computer to get faster transfer speeds.

The dlink will not connect to internet because it says the usb port is not high speed how do i fix this

i think your usb slot supports only version 1.1 Install a new external usb 2.0 card or higher.

USB versions and speed rates are as follows:

USB 1.0/1.1 - 1.5 Mbit/s (Low-Speed) and 12 Mbit/s (Full-Speed)
USB 2.0 - 480 Mbit/s (now called Hi-Speed)
USB 3.0 - 4.8 Gbit/s (SuperSpeed)

When I plug a wireless cable into a USB port, the computer tells me that there are High speed USB ports available but does not inform where to find them.

Right-Click on My Computer, Properties, Device Manager, then Click on Universal Serial Bus Controllers, u will see the USB port available on your computer there. Also, at the same time you are doing this, try checking all the USB ports on your computer...most times, the HIGH-Speed USB Ports (USB 2.0) are always seperated from the other USB ports...so try the USB port seperated from others.
In your own case, Acer TravelMate 2303LCi has just 3 USB slots, a PC card slot, modem and network slot. No floppy drive, no TV-out, no IR, no Wi-Fi. So check-out USB Ports, the USB port infront of the Laptop beside the Audio Port and and the Speaker, on the extreme-right is your USB 2.0 High-Speed Port.

No high speed usb port

Hi Delvin!

The 2 usb-ports on the front and the 3 back of your Dell is high speed ones, at least the manual says so, they are all USB 2.0.
If you cant get them work properly with the 2.0 usb speed, you can buy an high speed pci add-in- card and install it on your pc.

Here you can read about the "high speed usb" :
http://www.usb.org/developers/usb20/

And here is the manual and avalible drivers for your Dell:
http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/my_systems_info/manuals?~ck=ln&c=us&l=en&lnki=0&s=gen

Good luck to you M8!

Please take a moment and rate my help for you
