Question about Ecoquest Flair Air Purifier

Ecoquest Flair Air Purifier leaves black residue on walls and...

I have the Ecoquest Flair Air Purifier, I have had a machine since 1999. In the last few years I have moved several times and notice that regardless of where I live, the purifier leaves a black residue on walls and furniture in the same room as the purifier. It cleans off of countertops and appliances fairly easily, but walls must be repainted. It's quite annoying since I am renting and each time lose my security deposit because of it. I love my machine, it works great and my house always smells clean, but the black residue isn't! Can you offer any suggestions for why the machine would do this? (I clean my machine thoroughly every two weeks: fan blade, plates, insides, and oil the motor. I have replaced the fan motor once and replace the plates every year.)

My air purifiers do the same thing. I have one in every room because my husband and children have asthma/allergies. I notice it's worse everytime I burn candles.

Hi there,

The black residue is what is in your air. The reason for it to cling to the walls is the Ionization process that the machine creates. The ionization is to create a clean breathing space, free from contaminants. All particles floating in the air will be negatively charged and cling to each other or to objects in the room (like walls) that are positively charged.

If you cook, there is some smoke created, or when you burn candles. These greasy particles will stick to the wall or to surfaces. Cleaning them up regularly might help. You can also try another product from EcoQuest called EcoH which is based on enzymes and cut through that grime easily. That might take the black stuff off the walls.

I have an EcoQuest "Flair" purifier with a shorted grid. Does it have any value for recycling?

You might want to check into upgrading. There could be a $100 rebate when you trade-in an old purifier when you buy a new one.
Pretty good deal.

Flair

You need to order two ceramic plates and a lint filter. The lint filter is the one that goes on the back. The two glass plates are what ionizes the air. They do not make them from glass anymore. You will need to go to the ecoquest website nd order the parts. It will run you right about $75. Ecoquest bought Flair out a few years ago. Hope it helps.
