You need a pcmcia Ethernet card because it sounds like your computer isn't equipped with Ethernet.

How can i get my laptop connected to the internet using ethernet cord coming from a home cable modem? i unplugged ethernet cord from home pc to my laptop and don't know where to go from here.

Hello,

You could just connect the ethernet cable from the cable modem to a etherner slot on the Laptop and access internet. NOthing else is required.

Hope this helped.

Where is the ethernet cable connected to this laptop

This is an older laptop that comes with a modem (RJ-11 on the back), not an ethernet adapter onboard. You can try to get a PC card ethernet adapter (type 2 or type 3 fit the slot) or a USB ethernet adapter. The USB port was not available on models that came with WinNT.

I wish I could be of more help.

The tab on the ethernet port has broke off so the cable will not stay in. How do I remove it from the laptop Tough book CF 52 to repair it

Hi,

The NIC (ethernet port) is part of the laptop motherboard. To fix something like that you will have to be good at micro soldering.

I find it strange that there is a tab on the port itself, the locking tab's are usually on the RJ-45's (ethernet) cables themselves like in this picture>>>>

Laptop unable to connect to cable modem

Although you can use a USB connection, you have experienced first hand one reason why I never recommend it. Firstly, you have to install drivers for the modem itself, usually included on the install CD. However, if you just purchased an ethernet card for under $15 locally or under $8 on the web, you plug it in, and once it's installed you just go without further complications and it is faster and more reliable as well.

Plugged ethernet cable innto laptop from cable modem and nothing

Click Start / Control Panel / Network Connections.

Your Ethernet status should show under LAN or High Speed Internet. It might be disabled, in which case, right click & ENABLE.

Let me know how you get on.

Internet card

You can call the provider where you got the card and they can tell you where to go on the net to download the program that connects it. Its free if you can find out what the card reads or what kind it is.

Internet connection

There are 3 ways to connect to the internet. Using a modem with a phone line, an ethernet cable that is hooked up to a high speed internet connection or using wireless. If the laptop does not have a modem, it may have wireless or an ethernet port. Ethernet is slightly larger than a phone jack. If there is wireless there should be a button to turn it on and off somewhere along the top of the laptop where the keyboard is. You could also put get type of those connections on a PCMCIA card which fits into the credit card like slots on the side.
