Vizio L37 has faded/weak picture, lacks color and contrast
I have a Vizio L37 LCD HDTV. Regardless of input source, the picture looks washed out, faded, lacking the vivid color and contract it once had. This just happened all at once, no slow fading out or anything like that. I have adjusted the set contract and color to try and compensate for this witout success. I would appreciate any diagnosis and how to fix the problem.
I have tried unplugging the unit as suggested and have checked the fuse. The picture has not improved.I have tried unplugging the unit as suggested and have checked the fuse. The picture has not improved.
The suggestion is to check out the screen for humidity, however, there was no instruction as to how to check the screen for humidity. The picture on the screen is uniformly faded or weak. The TV has not been exposed to changes in temperature or humidity and has been in the same location for well over a year before developing this problem. The suggestion is to check out the screen for humidity, however, there was no instruction as to how to check the screen for humidity. Thanks for your thoughts on what is wrong. I have looked for a digital processing board as you suggested at the website you suggested as well as several others and have not had any success locating one. Is it possible that the board I need to replace goes by a different name?
Thanks again for your help.Welcomeje,

Thanks for your comments. I think what you are saying makes sense. The Vizio L37 LCD TV (model #L37 HDTV) has a LG Philips LC370WX1 SL(01) LCD panel installed. As there is no loss of clarity, e.g., blurred picture, based on your observation it would be the inverter board that has failed as the picture is faded or dim.
This model tv uses two Back Light Inverter boards positioned on opposite sides of the LCD. One is labeled Master (left side when viewing the TV from the rear, Part # 6632L-0197D YPNL-T010G rev. 05). The other is labeled Slave (right side when viewing the TV from the rear Part# 6632L-0198D YPNL-T010H rev. 05).
I am wondering if both boards need to be replaced? I am also wondering how to determine whether or not similar boards with different part numbers will work? I have not found the exact replacement board for the master at Shop Jimmy or anywhere else for that matter.

Re: Vizio L37 has faded/weak picture, lacks color and...
A faded picture on LCD is not a matter of settings or humidity.
A faded picture is an internal fault and must be fixed by a technician.
A very dim picture means that the inverter board has failed, and the inverter board must be replaced.
A blurred pictures, or a picture with no color (ensure settings are fine in this last case) means that the video processor on LCD controller board has failed, or that one channel on RGB circuits has failed. In this case you must replace the LCD control board.
Re: Vizio L37 has faded/weak picture, lacks color and...
Symptom shows problem in digital signal processing circuit that Y-signal is missing and causing washed out picture. You should replaced digital processing board and good source would be Shop Jimmy. Please call there and confirm board stock and price. Thanks.
Some parts shops call it Main Board as shown HERE ( it is just for reference only, not exact model board) Kindly take off back cover of your TV and post a snap of boards here so it will give better idea what board and where is located in your TV. Thanks.

Your response, "Is it possible that the board I need to replace goes by a different name?"
My answer.. You are asking compatible or equivalent board. I'm not sure about it and part shop can assist you better when you show them TV defective board. TV will not show picture or menu if inverter got defective.Your response, "Is it possible that the board I need to replace goes by a different name?"

Did you check backlight ? And also can you post the details of inverter you replaced ? How old is your tv ? There is chance of bad panel if it is very old .

It's possible that you have one of the contrast or color settings set to the wrong setting. Take a look in your menus to find picture control, and mess around with a few of those.
Used the tv original remote go into tv Menu goto PICTURE turn on more Backlight like +5 and like Contrast +30.The tv back ground should be alot brighter.
No signal indicates that the TV is not getting a signal from a source cable, so no, it's not the end! The first thing you can try is to verify that all the connections between the TV and the cable, satellite, DVD player, or whatever device you're trying to use have not come loose and that the device is powered on. If that doesn't fix the problem, your next step would be to check what input option the TV is on. For example, when using a cable source with an HD cable box, you'd want to use your remote that came with the TV to check the component or HDMI sources. To do this, look for a button on the remote marked "source" or "input." If the remote has neither of those, sometimes the Menu button can get you to input options. Once you've selected the right source, your TV should have a picture again, but as a last resort, you can contact either your TV manufacturer or cable/satellite provider.
Please elaborate on the color not working: 1.Is the picture clear just the color shift is off, or is the picture like watching a black&white Tv? 2.If the colors are just faded, non-contrasting, come and go, go into the programming section and reset adjustments to achieve the desired picture. 3. For colors that fade in and out ( come and go ) absent any information as to the source ( cable, antenna, satellite ) check all source connections, disconnect and reconnect while keeping a an eye out for loose, damaged, or dirty/corroded connections. 4. If determined that that the television does have a component fault, I question the mother board designation as these units have several compartmentalized card/boards. Replacement board availability and location ( as I do not know your location ) is available from :
you have to check preset picture mode if still not good then reset setting in setup mode.after that your picture become good.
if problem still then there is problem with LCD panel.
The HDTV tuner is out. Analog tuner, and video inputs work fine.

Im no expert on the subject, but I use my L37 for a monitor, and use just the vga adapter. It works good as a monitor, and both dvds and my hdtv wonder tuner card look great through the vga connection. They do make adapters for dvi to hdmi. Although, hdmi also carries sound, but you wont get that out of your dvi output from your card. So you might not have sound when using that connection, as your tv may not look to the headphone type jack used for sound imput from your computer when you select the hdmi source on it. If you have speakers already connected to your computer you may not care. Also if you have a 720 p Vizio, 1366x768 is the highest resolution you are going to get out of it anyway, if I'm not mistaken. I'm Not sure why you would need 2 connectios to the same monitor either. I posted 1 link below because they had several dvi to hdmi adapters. Hope that helps.
