Ps3 hdmi cable with adapterto tv's rca's

I am trying to connect my ps3 hdmi cable which is hdmi male to dvi female cable which ends in male rgb's. Trying to figure out if I can connect it right to the tv, or to the av receiver (rca's). Nothing seems to work. Need to know where to connect it and how to set up system to recognize it. TV is a 480i toshiba. No hdmi input on it (obviously). Any suggestions?

Well actually my main issue was that I want to be able to play blu ray disks. I believe you have to have hdmi hooked up to be able to do that right?

  • ljnass Mar 02, 2009

Then why does it tell me that the disc is not supported? sorry bout the yellow, I'm new here.

  • ljnass Mar 03, 2009

It's running whatever it came with. How can I upgrade? The blu-ray is from blockbuster online. It's the 80 gig unit. About a year old. Disc is from USA.

Just use the regular AV cords. They are 480i using an HDMI to this and that isn't going to improve picture quality.

I'm not sure why it's saying that.

Which firmware are you running on the PS3. You should be using 2.60

At home I have just a regular old Sony tv with NO hdmi and I play blu-rays on it all the time using just regular av cables.

Is this blu-ray from a different country or region?

First you need to connect your PS3 to the internet either wirelessly or wired.

Go to SETTINGS, NETWORK SETTINGS, INTERNET CONNECTION SETTINGS, follow the prompts.

    After you're online.

    Go to SETTINGS, SYSTEM UPDATE

That should hopefully clear up your blu-ray issue.

    Let me know.

That's ok you can update it other ways.

I've tried explaining the alternative methods but even with pictures and crystal clear instructions people keep messing it up.

So what I suggest is taking your PS3 over to friends house that has Cable / DSL internet and then hooking it up to their network and then perform the update there.

How to connect to tv

There are several ways to connect a game console to a TV. The question is, what system are you trying to connect? Some features may be available for the newer generations, that are not on older models. I'm assuming, since you have posted with a picture of a Sony Playstation 3, (PS3) that is the system you are trying to connect. The easiest way to install is to use the supplied (RCA) connection cords that comes with every PS3 system. One side connects to the corresponding port in the back of the system, and the other end has (3) multicolor plugs. They will match the colors on most TV's. Some of the older TV's do not have the RCA ports and will require an adapter to connect this way. These colors are; YELLOW (video out) RED (audio out right channel) and WHITE (audio out left channel or MONO) The PS3 also has and HDMI port, and is much simpler to connect the TV and game console together. As I stated before, not all TV's are equipped with HDMI. HDMI cables carry both the video and the sound through 1 cable. To install this way, simply turn on your TV to the correct aux port, in this case HDMI, then connect the the HDMI cable from the PS3 to an available port on the TV. After you have connected the cords, turn the system on and it will tell you that it has "Detected an HDMI connection. Would you like to use this connection?" Select yes. The rest is automatic.
Also, if you didn't know and are needing a new rca cord to connect to the TV, search for a cord from one of the older systems in the SONY family and they will save you some cash, as they are all exactly the same. PS1, PS2, and PS3 all use the same connection. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Turn on ps3 i get no picture or sound then i cant turn it off i have to unplug it whats wrong with it?

  • Check your HDMI Cable

HDMI is available in several versions. The PS3 is compatible with HDMI version 1.3 or higher, which will take full advantage of Blu-ray Disc™ high-definition video. There are also "Type A" and "Type B" connectors. The PS3 uses the 19-pin Type A connector, which will allow resolutions up to 1080p.
The HDMI cable is not included with the PS3.

  • Cable adaptors (i.e., HDMI to DVI converters)

If you are using an adaptor (i.e., HDMI to DVI converter), try bypassing this adaptor and connecting the HDMI cable directly into the display.

  • Check the adaptorTry an alternate cable

  • Try connecting with the supplied AV Cable instead of the HDMI to see if you can get a successful installation. This will help determine where the problem may be with your particular HDMI setup and/or equipment.

  • Some older HDTVs may have issues with the copy protection protocols (HDCP) causing the handshake not being communicated between the TV and the PS3. Try resetting the TV by turning the TV and PS3 off, then unplug the TV power cord from the outlet and plug it back in. Then turn your TV and PS3 back on and see if the picture appears.

  • Try using a different the HDMI Cable on the PS3.Make sure the HDMI Cable is free of any cuts, frays or other visible damage.
  • Try installing the PS3 to another TV or display (i.e., monitor).
  • Try using the HDMI Cable with a different PS3 system.

PS3 to Infocus LP 350 projector using HDMI

Hi,

M1-DA is a type of DVI connection that produces both analogue and digital signals, the easiest and most quality source cable for you to get is a HDMI to M1-DA cable which is now widely available for purchase.

Infocus should have included this cable in with your projector, but instead the power at bee decided to put a M1-DA to DVI-D cable instead when most visual devices now support HDMI and not DVI nowadays.

Thanks

PS3 no picture problem..

Try using RGB cables and unplug the HDMI cable from the PS3, then while the PS3 is off, hold down the power button/sensor on the PS3 untill you hear a beep or a few beeps. This will force the PS3 to automatically detect the TV/cable resolution settings. Hope this works.

PS3 hdmi connection

With your PS3 on standby (red light) hold the on/off button down until it goes green and then back to red. This restores your PS3 to "factory settings", i.e. it is waiting for you to tell it how you want it to connect to your TV. Now disconnect any HDMI cables you may be trying to use and connect your PS3 to your TV via a scart connection. Now switch your PS3 on and turn to your AV channel and you should have both sound and pictures.

Play station 3 hdmi-dvi

Yes you can. It will not be like a HDMI cable but it will be better than the RCA. Your image will be in your HDTV (1920 × 1080). But you will have to buy a HDMI cable and and HDMI-DVI adaptor. You will not have sound so you will have to connect either your RCA or if you have a Digital Optical Audio sounds better.

If you have any questions just ask.

Good luck!

Ps3 hook up

Yes, you can! But not straight out of the box. You need to purchase a DVI to HDMI cable adapter. It will convert it so your tv can use it. Here is a link to some:

Hope this helps! Please rate me!

Hdmi to dvi

a DVI Connection does not transmit sound, so you will need a seperate audio cable. Have you changed the settings in the ps3 and your tv's input to HD signal or 720 DPI, do not choose 1080i or 1080P as DVI does not support those high settings.
