Ps3 hdmi cable with adapterto tv's rca's

I am trying to connect my ps3 hdmi cable which is hdmi male to dvi female cable which ends in male rgb's. Trying to figure out if I can connect it right to the tv, or to the av receiver (rca's). Nothing seems to work. Need to know where to connect it and how to set up system to recognize it. TV is a 480i toshiba. No hdmi input on it (obviously). Any suggestions?

Well actually my main issue was that I want to be able to play blu ray disks. I believe you have to have hdmi hooked up to be able to do that right?

  • ljnass Mar 02, 2009

Then why does it tell me that the disc is not supported? sorry bout the yellow, I'm new here.

  • ljnass Mar 03, 2009

It's running whatever it came with. How can I upgrade? The blu-ray is from blockbuster online. It's the 80 gig unit. About a year old. Disc is from USA.

Just use the regular AV cords. They are 480i using an HDMI to this and that isn't going to improve picture quality.

I'm not sure why it's saying that.

Which firmware are you running on the PS3. You should be using 2.60

At home I have just a regular old Sony tv with NO hdmi and I play blu-rays on it all the time using just regular av cables.

Is this blu-ray from a different country or region?

First you need to connect your PS3 to the internet either wirelessly or wired.

Go to SETTINGS, NETWORK SETTINGS, INTERNET CONNECTION SETTINGS, follow the prompts.

    After you're online.

    Go to SETTINGS, SYSTEM UPDATE

That should hopefully clear up your blu-ray issue.

    Let me know.

That's ok you can update it other ways.

I've tried explaining the alternative methods but even with pictures and crystal clear instructions people keep messing it up.

So what I suggest is taking your PS3 over to friends house that has Cable / DSL internet and then hooking it up to their network and then perform the update there.

Struggling to connect my Goodmans Freeview+ HD recorder (HDMI output) to either the DVI (female) or VGA (female) input of my Samsung LE27T61B TV which is HD ready with a resolution of 1366 x 768.

They are different protocols. You have to have a converter than changes the protocol (protocol is like a language...it needs to be translated to a different language). They are available from eBay or amazon but they don't always work very well. Best thing to do is get a unit with the correct connections.

Dvi hdmi

Some more information is needed on what you are trying to do.
Usually you can buy a HDMI to DVI cable to do the job. This may also be referred to as a PC to monitor cable.

This image may help in identifying what type of connector you have...

How do i set up my acer pc to work on my tv

The detail in this answer is somewhat in disproportion to the detail in your question, since I want to help you to the best of my ability. It is, however, much easier for a solution-provider to give succinct, accurate, relevant and useful answers if the customers helps the process, as much as possible, by providing as much background information as possible.

You give no specific information about either the PC's or the TV's model number or specifications and are yet to respond to the other expert's valid prompt for additional details, so I will assume that you are only interested in general non-specific advice, as that is all that I will be able to offer you because of the sparse information in your question.

If both your computer and your TV have Video Graphics Array (VGA), Digital Video Interface (DVI) or High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) ports, then you can connect the two devices with the appropriate VGA, DVI or HDMI cable.
If your TV does not have the above ports but only has Radio Corporation of America (inventor - RCA/Phono) connectors, then you can use the appropriate VGA to RCA/Phono, DVI to RCA/Phono or HDMI to RCA/Phono Adapter Cable between the TV and the PC (see images below).
Since all cable interconnections suffer from some degree or other of signal degradation os dissipation and gold is the most efficient conductor amongst the metals commonly used for cable connections, cables with gold plated connectors perform the best and therefore cost more than standard cables with connectors made with cheaper, less conductive metals. You should consider buying the best cabling that you can afford.

Once connected, if your TV has a Remote Control, press:

Menu -> Input (Signal/Device) Source -> PC -> Select/OK.

If you have no RC, then you can try using the Program or Channel selector buttons on the TV's control panel to manually select the Input Device.

When the Desktop PC is powered up, after setting up the TV as described above, the PC should send the image to the TV.

If the above information does not match the specifications of your equipment, them please post further background information here and one of the experts here will try to offer you further advice.

How to turn on rgb from lap top to tv.

In order to connect your laptop to your TV using RGB, you need an RGB adapter. RGB is also known as component video; it breaks up a video signal into red, green and blue. laptops do not have RGB outputs. However, many laptops have VGA, DVI or HDMI outputs. An RGB adapter connects the single VGA, DVI, or HDMI cable to an RGB cable, which is actually three different cables tied together. INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Connect either the VGA, DVI or HDMI (in the order of increasing video quality) cable to the VGA, DVI or HDMI port on your laptop, depending on what is available. 2. Connect the other end of the cable to the side of the RGB adapter with the single input. 3. Connect the RGB cables to the red, green and blue ports on the other side of the RGB adapter. 4. Connect the other end of the RGB cables to an available component input on the back of the TV. 5. Tune the TV to the component video input you used through your television's menu. 6. Turn on your laptop. The laptop should now display on your TV screen.

How to use rca entertainment series 32 inch as pc monitor

Assuming that your RCA 32 inch tv has an HDMI or VGA input, all you need is the proper cable to connect the two units. If your computer has a VGA out (blue female connector) and so does your TV, you would need a male to male VGA cable. If your computer has a DVI out (white connector), you would need to purchase a DVI to HDMI cable. The combinations can me played around with depending on what connectors are on the back of the TV and what you have as an output for your PC.

I have a phillips 26pf5520d/10 model number, ive connected a dvi cable and hdmi cable to my playstation 3 and tv, but i have no sound, please any ideas. many thanks steph

I'm assuming you mean you have HDMI coming out of the PS3 and going in to the DVI port on the back of the TV, via an adaptor or cable with a different connector on either end.
I have the same TV, you need a separate audio connection between ps3 and tv. HDMI can transmit audio and video but DVI (which is what the TV has) can only do video.
You'll need a 2 x phono female to 3.5mm jack male adaptor cable. like this one to make the audio connection.
you could also try this adaptor but its a bit big and therefore may not fit into the space available.
after getting an adaptor do this (keep your original setup the same)
1. Put the ps3 AV cable into the back of the ps3. 2. then connect the red and white plugs (ignore the yellow) from the ps3 AV into the adaptor (discussed above). 3. then connect the 3.5mm jack (from the adaptor) into the small audio port right next to the DVI port on the back of the TV (I believe its called 'DVI Audio')
I've not tried this and I don't have a ps3, yet, but in theory it should work, as long as the ps3 will send audio to the av output at the same time as to the hdmi output.
if it works, then post a response, i'd like to know for the future.
good luck
