Sounds like you have a noisy connection or extension cable with a faulty plug/socket. Try cleaning the connector pins carefully with something like a little WD40, using cotton buds.
Try another phone in the socket. If it has the same problem then tell BT that there may be a 'line-fault'. They will investigate it for free.
