It is a belkin f5d8233-4v3. I have want to secure the network. I have gone through accessing the IP address and selecting the 64 bit WEP security and typing a phrase to generate a key. I now see the router on my laptop but my laptop says window can not connect to it.

am having enormous difficulties with installing my router. It was initially working and I could access the network from my hp lap top but it was unsecured. I was trying to secure it and that is when all hell has let loss. I followed the instructions from the manual on configuring a WEP and then my lab tops are then unable to connect to the router. I know I need to do something to the lap tops so as to connect to the now secure router but do no know how.
    Please help.

Ok, you have enabled WEP on your wireless network.
When connecting your computer should ask for the WEP password/key, does it?

If so, did you turn on mac access control?

Have you successfully connected your laptop to other WEP enabled networks?

    What model do you have?
Are you trying to secure your wireless network?

My Router works only if I do not put security password on it.

The router works only if the network is unsecured.
When you secure the wireless network , make sure that you will change the wireless network name also. Because if you change the wireless security and if you keep the same network name then your computer will try to connect to the same network name with the old unsecured settings saved on the computer.
Try to change the SSID ( network name ) and security to WPA, check if that works.
If that doesn't work then I believe you will need to upgrade the FIRMWARE of the router.
