Gave "The Singing Machine SMG-228" to mom for holidays a couple years ago. She was not using it, so we reclaimed it for our family. Mom managed to break the top disc door- it will not stay closed, so we can't use the machine. Also, she lost all paperwork, so we don't know how to fix the problem, how to use the machine OR who to contact. Can someone please help?

I am trying to find the manual for you but at this stage the only thing I have is the Singing Machine website which has user manual for some of the models only. It appears SMG-228 may not be supported in all countries.
Check if any of the ones listed on the site is similar to what you have. I will keep checking and contact you again soon.
