Re: windows 98 se problems
Please to don't take this wrong but your computer is an antique.
There is a big chance that it is not going to turn on one day and you may lose all of the data on it.
Don't feel bad though, that is suprisingly long life for a computer!
It is time to get a new PC and move your data to it. This is your last chance to get Windows XP which is the last version of Windows that still looks like WIndows 98. Don't get stuck with Windows Vista.
Check out www.dell.com and type "Outlet" into the Search Window. The slowest Windows XP computer you find will be WAY faster than your current computer at a tenth of the price. They even have payment plans.

Well, Windows 98 is an end-of-life product. It is no longer supported by Microsoft, so no help will be coming from there. You can go to support.dell.com and enter your service tag number to download the manual for your computer. I would suggest using Google to find any Win98 manuals that may be out there.
This could be due to compatibility with the new Windows Operating system on the new Dell. Please provide more information as to you issue such as : a. model number b. manufactured by/model c. You have checked the user manual 1st. Please give detailed information as to your issue to better assist you in your resolution of the problem you are having. The more information given will help determine the resolution and guide you to the proper fix for your issue. Thank you.
Windows 98 does not support Plug n Play Devices. So you have to download appropriate drivers from Microsoft Website. Though Windows 98SE ( Windows 98 Second Edition ) thought to be support USB Mass Storage Drives fairly, these drivers are not pre-installed with OS. You have to download Service packs to install these drivers.
Since Windows 98 have TWO versions, we have to download corresponding service packs .
The problem is with the actual key that you are using. Not your
computer, or the components inside of it. If you are certain that you
are using a valid key Its likely that you have a a key for windows
home, and you are trying to install windows professional, or visa
versa... Either way, If all else fails, you could replace the OS (
Buy or download) much easier than the hardware inside your computer.
Basically your computer is fine, just get a valid OS. If your adventurous try ubuntu.
with camera connected via a USB port, go to control panel "add hardware" and let windows try to locate the device.
Also if you right click on "my computer" select "properties" then click on "hardware" tab then click on "device manager" button, all devices are shown in expandable tree format, any device with a problem, will be shown with a yellow asterisk, if this is so, follow the prompts to update the drivers......good luck
