Hi, you will need to load the sata raid drivers when installing the OS. Some off the older versions of xp will not have these, when windows is installing it will ask if you need to install a 3rd party raid driver press F6. later on it will ask you to insert the raid driver disk. which you may have to do/make yourself if you haven't already got one.

After installing a new hard drive in my desktop computer, it still does not work. It says no boot device available. Sata's 0 & 1 installed but 2 & 3 uninstalled

No boot device available means the boot device hard drive on your system has no bootable operating system installed on it, or it is faulty. In the BIOS setup program, does the computer recognize the hard drive you installed, and is it included in the boot device list? If you installed a new hard drive because of a failure of the C: drive, the new hard disk does not come with an operating system. You have to install that on the new hard drive from the manufacturer's system restore disks. SATA channels 1 and 2 are just the connections on the motherboard for devices, and usually have a hard drive on one connection and a cd rom drive on the other. Giving the model and manufacturer of your computer might provide more clues.

I'm trying to install MAC OS 10.6.6, but it keeps on failing. It says it can't install. The new internal harddrive is a Samsung Hm500jj 500gb,harddrive. Please help?

Be sure to use the OS installation disks that came with your system initially.
  1. You want to insert the CD or DVD that came with your computer
  2. When you get to the first screen, look for the Utility dropdown menu at the top
  3. Select erase and target the new Hard Drive
  4. Select HFS+ as the file system and check the box for OS 9 drivers if you need them
  5. Wait for a few seconds while the new drive is formatted
  6. Then select this disk for installation in the wizard and install the Operating System

New sata hard drive i installed keeps saying ntl not found checked bios ok cant start up to format drive or insall opperating system any idea?

Hi mikecoombe,

The easiest way to put in a new drive is to boot to the old drive as a master then put the new drive in as a slave. Make sure that if your using all sata drives, that you specify which drive to boot to in your bios. Then Format from your OS, and load away.

Good Luck

I just replaced my hard drive and everytime i boot up it says found no operating system but when i try to install the operating system it wont let me

New hard drives don't have an O/S installed, so they just be prepped and the O/S reinstalled, along with your applications.

Does your computer "see" the new drive? If the drive was properly connected, a modern computer will automatically detect it, and you shouldn't need to do much if anything in BIOS.

There is a key sequence to get into the BIOS setup, differs from computer to computer.

Assuming the computer detects the drive, the O/S install should partition, format, and install. Some SATA machines may not install Win XP without some additional work. Do you have the CD(s)/DVD(s) that came with your computer? If so, they should have all the proper drivers (including for SATA interfaced drives).

Hopefully this will help.

Istalling windows

Because you have a dual boot system, you have two 'C' drives, which in fact is a good idea if you get a system failure on the drive you are using, you can select the other and still view any files on the other drive through my computer.

f using XP, right click my computer, then properties, then click advanced tab, then startup and recovery listing click settings, at the top system startup, select the default operating system, then click EDIT button, then delete the value that points to the other hard drive more than likely listed as disc1, disk 0 will be the one you have connected as master boot hard drive

Installing Windows on new PC with Sata hard drive with no operating system installed

press any key to boot...

usually that comes up when a cd is inserted and its waiting for you to press a key so that it boots the cd

Formatting shouldn't be necessary if its a new pc unless your trying to get rid of the operating system.

Are you trying to install windows xp / vista ?
