is it intermittent or possibly this happen when you change some settings in your pc, try another monitor to isolate the problem, screen usually turns black in windows when you change some settings. you have good graphics why not upgrade to higher version of OS it is possible also that your encountering compatibility issues

I am guessing that you have a Mac computer because that is what I found this printer is used for.
Give it a bit of time to appear on your computer. Since it is a large file (the whole manual for a 5450) it will take a while.
once you insert the XFX readon hd5450 card into PCI E slot on the motherboard go into the bios by tapping DELETE key until you see bios options and then go to advanced Tab and check if primary video adapter is selected to on-board and if yes change the same to PCI-E save the settings by selecting exit tab and then select exit saving changes and save and restart. I am sure it should then detect the graphic card and you can then plug in the monitor to the VGA slot on the Graphic card. do reply if you need any more help Good luck.
