Broken belt. The safety switch will not allow the motor to stay running if the belt is broken. Open the door and look up at the 12 oclock position and their will either be 2 or 4 screws holding down the top. These must be removed and then you can get the top to come up(or off on newer models). Once you have the top up you can get to the screws which hold the front on (2). Then you simply remove the front and get it out of your way. On some these dryers there is a friendly rear hatch to help you replace the idler.

The dryer has a diagram on the machine. The centrifugal switch is on the end of the motor and they close when the motor is running. This contact is in the element circuit.

SOURCE: Dryer blower motor runs slow and makes loud humming noise.

It will almost certainly be the capacitor. Instead of buying the $60 part thru parts suppliers, I went to a local engine repair shop and bought one for $8.50 and installed it. It worked fine.

You can order the part from Beidlers motor repair, just as I did. Their number is (304) 263-9995

I have a GE Electric Dryer model DPVH880EJMV. It stopped working and displays error code E12 - "Motor is not rotating or centrifugal switch is bad". Anyone run into this issue before or have a fix?

Jeff,
If your centrifugal switch is bad, more than likely you are going to need a new motor because those are built into the motor. The only other thing to check is to find out if you are actually getting power down to the motor. If you are, then motor problem, if not, then something else is bad that is not letting the current get to the motor. If you can find your wiring diagram, you should be able to find which wires deliver the current to the motor and you can back track to see where you lose the current. Hope this helps!

Amana dryer ned4600yq the dryer starts when the start button is pressed but doesn't stay on once the start button is released.

From what you describe, it could be several different problems. Rarely is it the push to start switch. The most likely scenario is that the centrifugal switch on the motor is not working correctly. The other scenario would be the timer. There should be a schematic located somewhere inside the control console. Look for the wires that go to the motor's centrifugal switch and the start button. Jumper the centrifugal switch on the motor so that the dryer thinks the motor is turning all the time. Then, test it by powering it on and pushing the start button. If the motor keeps running, then it's the centrifugal switch, if it shuts off, then it's most likely the timer.

Good luck!

4. Defective timer--replace timer
5. Open heater element---replace heater element

My dryer will only stay on if start switch is pushed in. i replaced the switch and it still does the same thing

The centrifugal switch on the motor has probably failed.

This switch is engaged when the motor starts turning and keeps it running when the start switch is released. Often, the tiny springs on the centrifugal switch will break causing the switch to not operate properly. If the springs are good, the switch could be faulty.

The dryer runs without the start switch being used.

Good day,
The dryer start switch, starts the motor by bypassing the centrifugal
switch built into the motor. Once the motor is running, releasing the switch doesn't matter because the motor gets it's power directly from the timer to the motor thru the centrifugal switch.

Either the switch on the consul has welded the contacts, or the centrifugal switch in the motor has done the same.

To test, unplug, and access the start switch. remove one of the wires from the switch, tape it to prevent shorting, and try the dryer. If it fails to start, then it is the switch.
If it still does the same thing as before, it is the centrifugal switch in the motor.

My ge automatic dryer model ddp 1275 c willnt

Sounds like motor trying to start. Simplest answer is article of clothing caught in the blower wheel and thus keeping motor from turning. Second is motor switch mounted to motor is bad. Not all dryers replace motor switch separately from the motor. Third, is the motor which contains a new centrifugal start switch with it.

Dryer won't stay on

When you turn your start switch it gives temporary power to the motor and then centrifugal switch in the motor kicks in and gives power to the motor until the timer stops it or the door is opened.Your motor centrifugal switch could be bad due to poor contact or heavy linting in and around the motor.Vacuum inside the dryer specially around the motor. If it doesn't fix it you have to buy a new motor, centrifugal switch cannot be bought separately.
