Question about Westell Wirespeed ProLine 6100 Router (C9961001100)

Disabling the firewall?

I'm trying to disable the firewalls on my computer for downloading music. My computer has a firewall via Norton 360, which I have configured to "allow" for my music downloading program, but according to the downloading program my firewall is still on. I get this message even when I turn the firewall completely off for the entire computer.

I understand that as this modem (westell 6100f) also functions as a router, it has its own built-in firewall. How do I disable the router's firewall?

You have to know the required ports for music downloading in order for you to configure on your router.

Laptops stopped connecting wireless

how about to reset your router and setup it the proper address by your internet provider..
laptops only connect to the router automatically if you enable it reconnect and detect its network without manually connect internet, this procedure can see in your wireless properties by enabling it.
And also ask your internet provider if theres a problem also with their internet connection.
Good luck!

I have access to the internet but something is blocking me from downloading the viewer for go to my pc. I am getting an error. I think it has something to do with my norton 360

The first thing I would do, and of course make sure that you are downloading go to my pc from a trusted source, is temporarily disable Norton 360. Also it may help to go the control panel and disable the windows firewall if active. Hopefully this helps, and don't forget to turn Norton back on!

Cannot share files/folders with home network...

Bill,

I understand the frustration and I will try not to add to it. I did a bit of searching and found one thread on another forum that was similar to your situation. This person said the following:

The solution was simple:

I was running NORTON 360.

Under firewall settings; disable personal firewall.

Once this is done, access is allowed to the host pc.

You can then set your permissions, create network paths and map network drives like you would normally do.

Bill, I can't tell you this will solve the issue but it did for this person.

Good luck

Firewall

You may find out that Norton is causing the block and not the firewall. To disable the Windows firewall do the following:

1) Click on Start then control panel
2) Click on Windows Firewall
3) Click on the Exceptions tab and see if Windows Live is listed and checked.
4) If not, click add program and add Windows Live

If it is there and checked then you can disable the firewall by clicking on the General tab and selecting Off from the firewall screen.
4) Finally, click OK

If none of this works then try turning off Norton. If that lets you log in then you will need to add Windows Live as an exception to Norton.

Good luck

Router not working

Hello Sean Lin,

The only option for the 5th pc would be to get it wirelessly connected. You need to install a wireless adapter to your pc. Set the IP & DNS to automatically obtained from router.

You also try to adjust or temporarily disable the your firewall and other securities;
Disabling Windows Firewall

Note: A firewall is designed to help protect your computer from attack by malicious users or software. Such software includes viruses that use unsolicited incoming network traffic that infects your computer. Before you disable your firewall, you must disconnect your computer from all networks, including the Internet. To disable your Windows firewall, please follow these steps:

Disable Internet Connection Firewall in Windows XP or Windows XP SP1

1. In the Control Panel, double click Network and Internet Connections. Then, click on Network Connections icon.
2. Right click on Local Area Network (LAN) Connection on which you want to disable the Internet Connection Firewall (ICF), and then click on Properties.
3. On the Advanced tab, you will see protect my computer or network check dialogue. Then, click on the Settings tab.
4. Click on OFF then OK.

Disable Windows Firewall in Windows XP SP2

1. Please click on Start, then click Run. Then, type in firewall.cpl and then click OK.
2. On the General tab, click OFF (not recommended) and then click OK.
I hope this troubleshooting steps will help..if not please notify me

Firewall

log into the router by typing 192.168.0.1 into your web browsers address bar. Then click the firewall tab and scroll down. At the bottom of the firewall screen you should see an "enable firewall" checkbox, just clear that checkbox click the save button at the very bottom. I personally wouldnt recommend completely disabling your firewall, if you really want to bypass the firewall with one particular computer, you should add that particular computers ip address to the "DMZ" list (De-Militarized Zone). And if you are just having difficulty with a particular program you can always set up port forwarding.

Software Firewalls and Linksys Routers

You can never have too much security, however there are some firewalls that will not work with hardware firewalls, that includes the all Linksys Routers . Keeping this in mind, some software firewall will continue working after the router is installed. If it does, it shouldn't need to remove it, because it's an extra layer of security. However if there are difficulties using the Internet with the Software firewall after installing the router, try disableing it to see if internet is accessable. If the internet works after disabling the software firewall, then remove the firewall.
