The manual says that if you remove the power supply (battery, etc) and wait a few minutes for the indication to clear, then you can resume use. If it doesn't go away, you need to take it in to be looked at.

My JVC Video camera says it is in safe mode, remove and reattach battery, but when we reattach it, it just repeats the message.

Try cleaning the battery contacts, both on the battery and inside the camera. If that doesn't fix the problem, it will have to be serviced. You can take it to a local camera repair shop, or contact JVC for the nearest authorized dealer:

Have a jvc camcorder turn on and it says safe mode remove battery

Forget the battery, the mini dv carrage assy can get out of sync and initiate the safe mode, if you noticed a problem loading the tape or have heard a gear skip sound thats the problem. The best you can do with those camcorders is keep the tape in the camcorder!!!!! That will prevent the problem and insure many good years of recording.

Sorry,

Tim.

I'm getting an E04 ( error) when I try to record or play

Here is some information regarding the E04 error message from http://www.techlore.com/article/10974/JVC-Camcorder-Stuck-in-Safe-Mode/:

"JVC notes that you are also given a malfunction code when the unit is placed into safeguard. If it displays code 01, 02, or 06 you should remove
the battery and powersupply and wait for a while. Code 03 and 04 indicate that you should eject and reinsert the tape.

If neither of these solutions work, your only alternative is to bring it to a shop or send it to JVC for diagnosis or repair. Unfortunately, there is no other way to clear the condition."

This doesn't seem uncommon, and indicates a bad tape is loaded, or unfortunately, that the camcorder requires servicing.

Unit in safeguard mode

I found the solution on another web site. You just eject the tape, and then give the camera a few sound whacks near the microphone (I tapped mine of a carpetted floor). Believe it or not this seems to work! My camera had been in "safe mode" for over a year without any success in fixing it. I tried the above method having lost all hope of ever using it again, and presto, the think came back to life! Can't say how long it will last, but at least it's out of safe mode;-)
