Make sure your Xbox 360 is laying flat on it's side rather than standing up on it's end. If the console is standing up and is moved even slightly the disc will almost certainly be damaged. This video pretty much says it all:
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Are other games working correctly in your Xbox 360?
Is this a brand new disk? or did you buy used? if used, check for major scratching on the disk. If scratched heavily you can try to buff out scratches with a lint free cloth, I have also heard that toothpaste could be used for buffing out scratches, but I would only try this as a last resort.
If other games work fine in your Xbox, it's probably the disk. Make sure you have the XBOX version of the game (and didnt accidentally grab the PS3 game instead or something)
If it is the right version of the game and brand new and not working, call Activision and tell them you have a bad disk, if it's brand new I can't see how they wouldn't replace it. Or just return it to the store.
Check back side of disk or any scratches or dirt, wipe of game with soft damp cloth. Please know if there are too many scratches or if the scratches are too deep, then replacement is be required. If there are no scratches or dirt, try other Xbox 360 games to for sure verify that it is the game that is the problem and not the Xbox 360. If the game is at fault and the Xbox 360 can play other games, and there are no scratches or dirt, then it’s a faulty disk, and needs to be replaced. Hope this helps!
1. you move, shake or touch xbox while running or disk is iin.
2. The disk reader is to close to the disk.
Solution: Open up xbox,. find disk reader, take picture. Show to people at game-stop, they'll tell u what to do.
3. Xbox is broken or faulty
Solution: Get your money back and buy a new one or don't and keep buying games when the old 1 gets scratched
This is a known error that effects some xbox 360 consoles. try and keep your console on its side so the disc cant slip in the disc tray as this might cause it to scratch. if it continues to scratch your disk you may have to send your console in for repairs. oh ye if the game isnt working then go to a place like a dvd/ game store and ask if they clean disks mostr usually do and it fixes all but serious damage.
A common problem that XBOX owners are reporting is if the console is moved during play, a whirring noise is heard and then when the disc is removed, very visible laser burn rings are found on the disc.
Laser burn, looks like complete or partial circular scratches around your disc, also known as “ring of death marks”. This occurs to discs when the games console has been moved whilst playing, from an upright to a horizontal position or vice versa or simply knocked against or the wires may have been just tripped upon. Discs are then impaired by a ring of laser burn, which is a circular scratch into the disc. Some home remedies may help with very light scratches on some discs but a professional disc repair service is usually required to repair any scratches or laser burn on discs. They can be fixed!!!

If this laser burn scenario is consistently happening to your game discs especially if the console has not been moved or bumped against while the discs is in play, the games console itself may require repair. You should contact Microsoft for assessment and guidelines.
Dont worry. All this is, is your son must of tipped over his Xbox 360 console or he moved it, while it was on. In the Xbox 360 there is a default in which the thing that holds the cd and reads it is lose and falls onto the cd and scratches the disk, thats why it is a perfect circle. It happend to me the first day i got the Xbox 360. And also keep the Xbox laid down, it keeps it safer from tipping over and prevents it from scratching it again. Go to the store you bought the game from and you should be able to get a new one. My store gave me ea skate back. Show them your receipt. If they dont accept it, you have to call microsoft and send in that game and they send you a new one in the case.
