Epson perfection v100 won't start

my epson v100 was working fine until recently when it seems to be unable to start properly.
i'd plug in the power and it would power up for a few seconds then the green light goes off. on some days, i'd get far enough to do 2 scans before the power drops off. the carriage is now at the side and i dont know how i can jumpstart it so that it goes back to the middle.
pls help.
