Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

1 Answer

PS3 Internet connection

Ive tried connecting wireless without any luck. I bought an ethenet cable it sttill didnt work.
When I tried the cable with my laptop it was fine.
Does this mean there is a problem with the console and there is no reason why it shouldnt have connected straight away.
Maybe im missing something here !
Any help will be much apreciated as its drinvng me mad

If you've already tried the above and it hasn't worked please tell me the make and model of your router. Thx.

    Great. Now go HERE

and download and install the latest firmware for your router. If you're in Ireland, use the one that says FOR IRELAND, of course.

This is the first and usually the last thing we'll need to do in order to get you online.

Also what firmware revision are you using on the PS3? The latest is 2.60

  • RescueTechLA
    RescueTechLA Mar 01, 2009

Go to SETTINGS, SYSTEM SETTINGS, SYSTEM information.

It will tell you the firmware you're currently running?

Were you able to upgrade the router firmware?

  • RescueTechLA
    RescueTechLA Mar 02, 2009

    I'd recommend upgrading the PS3 to 2.60.

You can do this by following Sony's guide here:

    http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/Sy...

The part most people mess up is naming the folders.

You must name them EXACTLY like this PS3-->UPDATE

They have to be in caps.

    Let me know what happens.

    Where are you getting stuck?

Tell me exactly what you are doing.

    In brief you need to:

download the PS3 firmware to your computer.

Create a folder called "PS3", within that folder a sub-folder called "UPDATE".

Copy the PS3 firmware you just downloaded into the UPDATE folder

Eject the usb drive from the computer

Connect the usb drive to the PS3

On the PS3 go to SETTINGS, SYSTEM UPDATE

Choose the update via media storage option.

    Follow the prompts.

That's it, then it will update the firmware.

Make sure there are no discs in the blu-ray drive when you perform the update.

    RescueTechLA Mar 02, 2009

Just save the file, for the time being, anywhere.

    Just remember the location.

Afters it's done downloading, make those folders PS3 and UPDATE on the usb drive.

Copy the downloaded file into the UPDATE folder (usb drive)

Let me know if get stuck.

  • RescueTechLA
    RescueTechLA Mar 03, 2009

It's critical that you name the folders in capital letters

    PS3---UPDATE---(firmware copied to UPDATE folder)

Otherwise the PS3 will give you the message it just did.

  • RescueTechLA
    RescueTechLA Mar 04, 2009

The previous owner's data won't affect the update.

If you can't get the PS3 to update from your own network then the easiest way past this is to just take it to a friend's place and perform the update from there.

Sometimes the best solution is the simple one!

I certainly hope so, we won't know for sure until we try.

Ps3 DNS error 80710102

get the IP adress of your router and go to it online.... your PS3 has what is called a "MAC address. you have to enter the MAC address into the web page to allow access to the internet to the device. this is how i connected a friend of mine to his wireless internet. he tried for weeks with no result but after i did this he was able to connect instantly.

PS3 wont connect to internet

Your PS3 should have WiFi built in unless you bought he 20GB version back when it first came out, that is the only one that dosn't have WiFi. But you can still connect it the way you want. You can use any type of ethernet cable, straight through or crossover. You need to go into your network connections in the control panel, select wired and wireless connection at the same time and bridge them. That should do it if you wanna go that route but you would have to have the computer on anytime you wanted to connect your ps3 to the internet. The best bet I think would be to just use the WiFi built into the PS3

My ps3 will not connect to my wireless internet

Try setting a static ip address on the PS3:-

First you need to find a Windows wired or wireless device already connected to the network in order to find out the required settings

Windows XP
1. Click start --> (sometimes settings) --> Control Panel --> Network Connections
2. Double click on the active connection which will say connected underneath
3. Click Support
4. Click Details
5. Now the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, Primary DNS and Alternate DNS which are displayed should be noted.

Windows Vista
1. Click Start --> Control Panel --> Network and Sharing Center
2. Click on "View Status" to the right of your connection
4. Click Details
5. Now the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, Primary DNS and Alternate DNS which are displayed should be noted.

Set these values under "manual settings" in the PS3 but add 1 to the last number for the IP Address as this has to be unique on your network

Try entering the WAP code or whatever security you have correctly. If it still refuses to work try plugging in your brain by sticking your index finger and middle finger in the socket.

Need help with ps3 internet hook up

The ps3 wifi is very finicky --
While the ps3 scans for a hotspot turn the router off then on so the router aquires the ps3.
Goto settings
Goto network settings
Goto network connection, select enable
Goto Internet connection settings just below internet connection-
Push yes when it says you may be disconnected
Select wired or wireless
For wireless use scan or enter manually
Follow on screen instructions.
Once that is set up return to main menu and go to network near the right
Then once in the internet browser press triangle and goto file and enter the internet address you would like visit.
If all else fail use the ethernet cable to attach it to your laptop. Then run network setup on the laptop and add the ps3.
