Dell xps 200,i turn on pc and get a --unsupported video format--message.HELP!!!
And what happens after the video format message? Does the computer boot? Does Windows XP run OK?
If so, look at your Startup folder to see if a link to a video file is there (and starting up automatically).
Once you find it, move that like to your desktop and / or delete it from the Startup folder.
If video is starting by an entry in the registry (in the Run section), then it's another story, and I wouldn't recommend that you touch or edit the registry if you don't have the experience.
Microsoft stopped supporting Windows XP back in April, no security updates, so you are at risk in terms of security. Consider upgrading to Windows 7, or buying a machine from a source other than a garage sale. Just suggesting.
