Question about Computers & Internet

Hitachi Desktop "Flora 370W" with Windows XP (8 months old) - LOST the Hitachi CD with hardware drivers & Windows XP doesn't recognize devices (i.e., Ethernet card). Thanks, P. Towle

    Thank you.

I already did this (my machine/Internet) but the only Hitachi sites I found for this machine are in Japanese - I tried Google's translations and found an Intel chipset update (12/02, must be installed first!) & an Ethernet driver (update? 12/02) but the "Properties" ID the language on the files as Japanese, which neither of us reads, speaks or writes.

I understand that only the directions/instructions may be in Japanese (software in code?) but I am reluctant to run an executable where I can't read any text(s).

Also, where can I find "download all of your drivers" that aren't in Japanese?

    Thanks.

Youll need a friends computer with internet access and a flash drive for this mission. Head to hitachi's website and look up the model of your machine. Download to the flash drive at least the ethernet and/or modem driver to your machine. You can either use these two drivers to get your machine online or you can download all of your drivers. If your model has multiple device drivers for each category, youll need a program called Everest. It will identify all of your hardware in your machine. Get the 30 day trial version from www.lavalys.com.

You can Google the devices that Everest detects. If you cant find the drivers specifically for your machine, try looking up the model number of the motherboard (Everest will reveal this too). Intel based motherboards are generally found on Intel's website. If that doesnt work, then look for your devices independently. Start of course with the ethernet drivers. When you run Everest, look in the physical devices category--here the devices are identified on a hardware level. Good luck.

Restore point will not work, and none of the software programs I have will recognize the DVD drive, so i can burn a DVD. They only recognize the Cd drive.

Have you made any recent hardware changes to your PC?

First check device manager by right clicking on My Computer and then properties. If using Vista or Windows 7 device manager should appear on the left side. If in XP or earlier click the hardware tab and then device manager. Find your dvd drive in the listing and make sure there are no errors present for the device. Go to the devices manufacturers website and download the lastest drivers. Install and reboot.

If the device does not appear in device manager and installing drivers did not fix it, the device may have become unplugged or may not be installed properly.

I installed Ubuntu together with Windows XP but in the process I lost the ability to see (in none of the OS) the USB drives, how can I recover them?

In Ubuntu, go to Administrator/Hardware Driver Update. It will run an update to check drivers available against your hardware. BTW new version of Ubuntu available at the end of the week. Ubuntu Upgrade If that's unsuccessful, run a normal Ubunto Update to do a driver/support search. In XP, boot up,, insert your install disk and right-click on My Computer/Properties/Device Manager. There is an option at the top to "Scan for Hardware Changes". It should recognize the USB hardware. When it asks where to get the drivers, point it to your installation disk which should have all of your USB drivers on it.
Best of luck and enjoy Ubuntu!

Driver problem

The hitachi flora is a laptop exclusively sold ONLY in JAPAN! so all webpages relating to it are written in Japanese!

Here's is the original link to the driver download page for your hitachi flora nv7...

http://www.hitachi.co.jp/Prod/comp/OSD/pc/flora/download/type/flora270w_nv.htm

Drivers are ordered in segments as follows:

BIOS
Graphics
LAN& Modem
Sound
peripheral device
additional

The first drivers in each of the first 4 segments are the latest versions you should download, and you should download almost all the drivers (for your operating system XP or 2000) in the last 2 segments.

I used babelfish to translate frases (BLOCK OF TEXT) in this webpage from japanese to english and it worked! it didn't work to translate the whole webpage though. You can use it, give it a try!

My pc can not realize your cam needs cd or some i lost already can you helo to solve this thanks

Youre in a bit of a pickle if you're using Windows XP or Vista (i.e., any Windows operating system that is less than 10 years old).

the Xirlink IBM Pro Max has been out of production for a few years. In fact, the manufacturer (Xirlink) doesn't even have a site anymore. That's right, its older than Dakota Fanning, but we won't be detterred, will we?

Let's fix it so it can operate on XP/Vista:

  1. download the original driver for windows 98 by going here. NOTE: Make sure you save this on your desktop or somewhere that you can find it easily, I can not stress this enough.
  2. let's examine the driver status in Device Manager. You can get to the device manager by right-clicking on My Computer, clicking on Properties, clicking on the Hardware tab, and then clicking on the Device Manager button. The Device Manager on my notebook computer indicated a problem with a USB IMAGING DEVICE
  3. Double-clicking on the USB IMAGING DEVICE brings up the Properties. It turned out that the driver for the IBM PC Camera is not installed, as shown in picture below. To install the driver correctly, click on the "Reinstall Driver..." button.
  4. The "Reinstall Driver..." button brings up the Hardware Update Wizard, which will help guide you through installing the correct driver for the IBM PC Camera. The first thing it asks you is whether you would allow it to connect to Windows Update server to search for the software driver. Pick "No, not this time". Click on the "Next >" button to continue.
  5. The next screen asks whether you would like the Hardware Update Wizard to install the software automatically or manually (see picture below). Select "Install from a list or specific location." It will prompt you to find the driver. Remember where I said to download it on the desktop? If you did, it should be right there :)
  6. Because the driver isn't made for Windows XP, it would throw up a warning box shown below. The warning box says that the driver "has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP." This warning is really just Microsoft's way of getting you to buy newer hardware. Click on "Continue Anyway"; the IBM PC Camera will work just fine with Windows XP.
  7. Now, the Hardware Update Wizard has installed the driver for the camera, so you can click "Finish" to complete the process.
  8. After closing the Hardware Update Wizard, you will return to the driver properties box. Noticed that the title of the box has changed from "USB IMAGING DEVICE Properties" to "IBM PC Camera Properties". And you will see that the driver and device are now working properly. Click the "Close" button to close this dialog box.
  9. After closing the driver property box, you will see that the Device Manger has been updated as well. It now shows the IBM PC Camera device driver in a working state.
  10. Voila! We're done. Open up skype or whatever you wish to use to show your pretty mug and grab a beer for all the hard effort. If you're not 21, well, get some cider or something.

Hope this helped you!

Dimension 4600 cd/dvd drives not responding

Try uninstalling them in devive manager then rebooting and see
if they are reinstalled automaticaly as drivers should be in xp already.

Just right click on them and select uninstall.

If that doesnt work then try update drivers and let xp search online for them.

Failing that then try changing the cable thats attatched to the motherboard.

Hope that helps? :)
