Question about Apple Cinema HD 23" LCD Monitor

4 Answers

The upper half of my Apple 23" Cinema HD (ADC) display has suddenly become relatively dim. The power light on the lower front is now flashing the following sequence repeatedly... short-short-long. What do you you suspect has occurred? Allen Z.

Ok. So if it is a lamp outage, what are my repair options? Are you very familiar with this Apple display? I am pretty handy. If I purchase a new lamp, is it reasonably simple to do a self repair? If not, can you recommend a reputable, and affordable service, other than apple?
    Thank you. Allen Z.

Dear Suterman--- Thank you so much! I couldn't believe it. I awoke this morning, and did exactly what you said, and all seems to be working just fine. I only hope the problem doesn't recur too soon. I guess the best repair is sometimes to shut down, unplug and reinsert, restart after a dormant period. How sure were you that this would be the solution to my problem??? Just curious! Thanks again, for the best $10. spent. I am indeed impressed with this service. Best regards---DrZ

If you want to try an inverter board the only one I have found is at http://www.welovemacs.com/9225581.html

Also here is a PDF file to help you trouble shoot whether it is the inverter board or the backlight.

http://www.retrocomputing.net/info/siti/ManualiApple/cinema_display_23.pdf

Check page 13 of the PDF.

Hope this helps.

Probably to find the back light if it is bad, get the make and model of the monitor inside and then search for them.

  • Tim Crosslin Mar 01, 2009

Also the PDF will tell you how to remove the backlights, on page 8.

The darker area on the top could be a light failure inside the screen. LCDs have 2 lights inside to illuminate the screen, if one fails then there will not be enough light causing the screen to go darker.

The PDF file provided by techigs64 shows exactly how to access the backlight bulbs. I would suggest to call apple to buy the replacement parts.

    Good Luck.

Its the issue with the inverter board. Try swithing it off for half an hour and then try to switch it back on.

If its under warranty, then get the inverter board checked as the top backlight bulbs is not working or has burned out.

    Please ask for further clarifications.

    Thanks

Alos try and resetting the video card by restarting the computer while resetting the video card (holding down Command+Option+A+V), and when it finished the screen will be back to normal.

I would recommend you the apple people as sometimes the monitor doesn't need that light replacement, they can fix it without replacing and will charge you around $60. Apple repair-

    Apple Repair 1-800-APLCARE

But, even after you reset your monitor and it still doesn't work then call "Monitor Experts" 1-800-499-777(They will fix the light for around $150-180)

    Please ask for further clarifications.

    Thanks

Apple cinema display 23"

Hello!

Please do and verify any fuse blownout in the inlet of the power from the wall, if it is not visible then maybe you open the the back cover and try to see any parts that has error or blown. you should replace it with genuine replacement parts. however it hard to do this by a novice tech, My suggestion is to bring the unit to the nearest service center maybe the unit got warranty service or else maybe its a cheap or resonable cost.

may this help!

My 23" Apple cinema display (2002) has black screen and code flashes three short flashes. How do I find out if the monitor is dead or the power supply?

The only way to test is to use a known working power supply or known working cinema display with the parts you already have.

Apple 23 monitor 3 blinks and then pause, top screen is dim.

I have an older 20" display. I have had this same problem on occasion, and coincidentally, just experienced it again this morning. It seems to occur after I do an OS update. I powered down the computer, disconnected the display, reconnected by pushing firmly into place, then powered up. The flashing stopped and the display works fine. You might have a different problem, but that simple solution worked for me.

Apple 23" Cinema HD Display went off

Hey - I just got done with 30 minutes of trying my cinema HD on my macbook pro and plugging and unplugging. When I plugged it into an extension cord in another socket the monitor started right up. I've had this configuration in my office for years with no problem...until today. Did mac send us a system upgrade that caused a problem with the monitor's power source???? Good luck!!!!
