You will need to load the Video card driver for Vista for the model card you have in the system. Once this is done, you will be able to adjust the resolution.

If you need assistance in finding the video driver, post the details of the make and model video card in the system.

I have a new sanyo 32in flat screen for a monitor my pc loads up and it seems fine then when the log in screen should appear it goes black if i hook up a diff monitor it shows up

This most likely happens because the pc is using a resolution or frequency that is not supported by the tv/monitor. The resolution when starting pc is different than the resolution when logging in.
On Win XP right click on the desktop background, and choose properties from the pop up menu. Open the far right tab and change the screen resolution to 800 x 600. This is highly likely to work on the tv/monitor. [Vista or Win7 right click and choose personalize to get to resolution settings]
Connect to the monitor, restart pc, and you should be able to then see logon screen. Go back to the resolution setup screen and experiment with different resolutions till you find which works best for your display. You can pick a resolution and try it, then it will ask if you want to keep the setting. If you do not answer in 15 seconds, it will revert automatically to where it was a moment ago. So if the screen goes all funny or blank, just wait and it will come back.
Note that your display video card may not be able to support the optimum resolution you need, in which case you will be under utilising the screen. Everything may appear too big or stretched in one direction. In that case you will need to upgrade your video card to make full use of the screen capabilities. You should consult any documentation which came with the monitor to see what is optimum pc resolution to use, and bu video card appropriate to pc and monitor.

Low resolution of monitor

Right click on your desktop and select Properties (win XP or older), or Personalize (vista and windows 7), and select a higher screen resolution on the settings tab (XP), or by clicking "display settings" (windows vista or 7). If your slider is all the way to the right, make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card, or if the PC is older, you may need a new one that supports the resolution of the monitor.

Check your grahics card to make sure it supports higher resolutions. It may be that you have it already set to highest supported by your video card. Hope this helps.

My fonts are so large that I can't use some of my programs.

you could try going to "control panel" then personalisation and finally display settings look for the low high resolutions slider and adjust accordingly ( for windows vista)
this will adjust you monitor resolution so more items can fit on your screen

for windows xp i think from memory that it is "display settings" in the control panel you need i hope this helps in some way

It could be that the screen is at the correct resolution, but the icons are just set to display larger (Vista allows this). Right-click on the desktop (NOT over any icons), and select "View". there you can select the size of the desktop icons.

Default monitor

Hi, if someone has upgraded your version of windows the only way to go back to a older version is installing your windows xp home edition cd, only problem with that is when you downgrade you lose everything, so you will have to make sure its all backed up. in regards to the monitor, different monitors can support different resolutions, if you cant change it up any its quite possible you got a more basic one, All the best John
