Question about Sony MDS-JE520 Mini Disc Player

Can't plug optical cable on MDS-JE500

I purchase an optical cable to transfer my mini-discs on my CD R recorder and the cable didn't fully engage on both machines.

I try the optical cable supplied with my sony mz-r37 portable mini disc recorder on both machines and it didn't fully engage in the optical out of mds-je500.

These optical cable are not one way i guess.Do i need to buy an optical cable from Sony?

Optical will work any way you connect................connect mini out( play mode) to cd-r rec (in) recording or cd player (out) to mini (swithch to record, optical/line in/mic) the optical cable you have should work if all connection are fitted well. i record cd to mini using optical and vice versa all the time. just make sure you are connected correctly to what you wanna do

Not recording anymore

After you press the 'record' button the Minidisc unit is still in "pause mode" - you can hear the music and see the meters move, but notice that the time isn't moving until you press "Play" - then it will start recording. Is the time changing when you go to play it back? You might have left the MD in 'pause' perhaps?

Disc ejected and then retracted.

Check on the web for the fix. Many people had an issue with the Sony MDS-JE500 series MD units as the little lever switch that indicates that a disc is loaded goes bonkers and it might be as simple as 'adding' a non-sticky item to the lever. Do a Google search for 'mini disc switch fix'. Good luck.

What is the optical digital in for?

If you look on the back of some 5-disc CD players, you will see a similar optical output plug. You can plug an "optical" (fiber optic) cable between the CD player and the MiniDisc recorder and record using the 'optical' input. You will have a perfect copy, but note that you cannot now make a copy of this copy - it's a one-time only copy when you record digitally thru the optical or RCA digital input jack. Let me know if this helps. Good luck. I think MiniDiscs are about the handiest music format ever.

hi there is nothing to do by yourself. you need to take your md player to the next authorized service. seems the optical device that reads the discs has worn out, compareable to turntables you need to change the `needle` ;)

Hi have an mds-je500 minidisk player that stopped accepting disks, worked perfect one minute, says load error next each time i try to load, then says eject even though disk doesn't go all the way in....

The small limit switch for the disc in position typically goes bad on about 40% of all Sony Minidisc recorders. It is a $5 part, but will probably cost you $35 to get it installed.

I have a Sony MZ-M200. I want to transfer live recordings that I have made of my concerts on MD to CD. I can load the recordings into the computer. How do I then burn them onto a blank CD?

You would have to use the Sony MiniDisc software to burn them as a standard CD. A better solution is to buy an actual stand-alone stereo "CD Recorder" and go from the MiniDisc player to the CD Recorder and it will record directly, including track marks if you make it a digital dub! Check into getting a Phillips audio CD recorder, and Sony still makes a stand alone CD recorder as well.

Got the je470 minidisc recorder but want matching cd and amp. which models are compatible? thanks

Sony models may have a bit of a family resemblance, but any CD player and any amp will work perfectly.

You will probably want a CD player with an optical digital output to take advantage of the optical input on the minidisc.
